Just curious, why the use of your adjective that I made bold instead of just asking the simple question?

By the use of that adjective, "useless", it implied some sarcasm, or derision, involved IMHO, and your tone could be taken as "provocative" by the recipient, rather than a simple serious question.

So one would want to know if you were really interested in an honest serious answer, or if you just wanted to poke fun in order to make a sarcastic point, i.e. a rhetorical question.
