Didn't see it posted. Article over on CBS Sports talking about Strong and the rebuilding process.

Also the latest meltdown edition over on Roll Bama Roll. TFloss posted these last year and I would always look forward to them. Unfortunately, we are front and center this week.

...which is the right move. Even before the disaster that was the BYU game we all knew this season was going to be nothing more than transition from the old guard to the new one. There's no real reason to lose a year of Heard's eligibility on that if they can prevent it.

The fact that BYU only bet Houston 33-25, puts further in perspective how far Texas has fell off. And honestly it's getting pretty sickening. I'm still optimistic that our defense we'll get it together but the offense is way to conservative to garner any level of hope. I'm not confident in the offense at this point not am I confident in the defense when facing a option heavy team but I think they'll stand stout against any other offense. I don't think we're facing another option team like BYU with a quarterback as good as Hill for the rest of the season. So I think that the defense will clearly be the strength of the team and the offense will be the crutch all year, unless they open it up.

As far as I know, the only other great option QBs we'll face are Knight at OU and Walsh at OKST, if he's back (and I don't think he will be). Some of the other guys can run, but I don't think any of them are as zone read-heavy as those two teams.

I think we're just going to have to come to terms with the fact that Texas is not going to be good for a year or two.

Very true. Swoopes is still a couple years away from being the QB that we would want. The coaches know this and having him make throws that they know he can not make could ruin him early. While it will lead to losses, I see what they are trying to do. We have to field a QB, but we do not want to ruin his psyche by having him make numerous interceptions, etc. They will grind out the season with the hope that he can use it to blossom in one year instead of two.

The defense is a beast, but any defense that will be kept on the field as long as ours will be worn down game after game. It will be hard to watch, but it will come around. I wouldn't be surprised to see the worst record we have had in a loooong time this year. But as our OL gets seasoned from all these games, they should become at least average in performance next year and superior in performance the following. It is just painful and agonizing to see it all happen in seemingly slow motion. It is like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

With as much talent as you guys get you could turn it around immediately. It's all about coaching IMO.

the director of our entire department was in a suite for the BYU game with some of the really big spenders and from what i can tell you, the conversation going on in there was not very favorable towards strong. i really think if texas gets embarrassed on prime time TV tomorrow that the long term forecast for coach strong would not be a favorable one.

Strong seems like a good coach, but his personality just doesn't seem to jive with UT head coach expectations off the field.

If Texas had talent, Mack Brown would still have a job.

The talent level is only going to go down after this season. I see no reason for a guy like Jonathan Gray to stay for his senior year behind a oline this bad, he has his health to think about. Same for Malcolm Brown (DT), no reason to come back to a team that is this far from contention. That means this team is going to be a sandwich for the rest of this year and all of next season.

After that I think you will see things get better if Strong is the right man for the job, if not he is gone after year 3.

The only way we can this up is to not give Strong time to stack the lineup with his guys. We'd better not it up.

    We don't have the talent.

That being said why do I feel like we can give UCLA a game...
Baylor would murder us at present. Can we play Oklahoma twice next season and forget about this year. How the did we beat them last year?

If it was all about coaching, why don't we ever hear about phenomenal freshmen OL? For the OL, you need size and strength. The sheer bulk of the dominant OL man takes years to obtain. Three of the starters for Texas are freshmen or Sop res. It will take at least another one or two years just to get them bulked up and ready. The knuckleheads we had really screwed us by their actions.

I don't need to justify the QB issue, do I?

Yep. Being impatient and firing Strong after this season or next season would only set the program back more. If the team is still not in the Big 12 le conversation after year 3 then they can talk about whether or not to head in a new direction. I think that's a fair amount of time and fair expectations.

If David Ash could have stayed healthy last season, he still probably would be coach.

Thankfully we have two weeks to prepare for Kansas.
