The only reason it has become such a massive deal is because there's a public video, tbh..

I'm against Rice, mostly because he's a moron that couldn't keep his composure and killed his career(his name and rep is all he had left, since his game fell off last year), but there are many, many NFL players that have done far worse than what Rice did..the difference is that they weren't caught on camera..

The video of him dragging his girl was worse than the video of him hitting her IMO..

The same society that has proven time and time again to not give a about Blacks is now somehow outraged that a Black couple got into a fight. It's like some of these people get up everyday in search of something to be offended and outraged by.

Should have waited until they got to the room or home to beat her, tbh..

Jay-Z is the best example of this..Beyonce's crazy ass sister was flailing all over him, slapping him, etc, and the kept his composure..he knows that there are always cameras watching..that's Jay-Z, too, his career could easily recover from a scandal..

Ray Rice is a washed-up athlete that couldn't just wait until they got to the room to beat his girl..moron, tbh..

Any famous Black man, regardless of profession, should be aware that their career is in jeaopardy at all times..

Not just the video, the NFL's coverup and multiple punishments has made it a bigger story, tbh.... the got commissioner is finally taking heat from the media after screwing up yet another scandal....

Yep, but that's because of the existence of the video, though..

The NFL/NBA are accustomed to covering up, but the existence of the video and TMZ's access to it really killed the NFL's plan..

Really? If she's out cold you push the emergency stop on the elevator and get medical help. She could have a brain hemorrhage from a blow like that to the head and could have potentially died. You don't just drag her limp body around like a drunk three year old with downs syndrome.

I'm not at all for white Ray Ray did....but fact is everyone always tells us about the this due process ....how we are a Nation of Laws...how to trust the system... Ray was charged, convicted, and punished by law enforcement, punished again by the NFL (2 games) and then the media comes along and says no we don't feel it was enough so let's see if we can put public pressure to force a harder penalty despite what was already decided for a first time offender. My only point is don't ing tell me about due process...it's all a charades.

I'm not for men hitting women AT ALL...but Stephen A. Smith was right....when are these women's groups going to start talking to these women about not provoking people....while it will always be wrong for a man to hit a woman if the woman is provoking him by hitting, spitting, verbally abusing, etc you're pretty much inviting your own ass kicking...he may go to jail but you also might get your ass kicked...if you want to have a serious conversation about it then people need to stop ignoring this elephant in the room...which is women trying to hide behind the "you can't hit me rule" but I can hit you. It's stupid there are a lot of crazy ing guys out here who will knock a woman's teeth out...they will fight men and women alike...I'm sure Ray Rice would fight any dude that stepped to him....it's no secret....but any woman too ..Mike Tyson was a woman beater (according to Robin Givins) but he fought all kinds of dudes in the ring and on the street....

James Brown who we hail as the god father of soul...used to beat the out of Tammy Terrell...google it....he knocked all her teeth out at one point and yet blacks and whites celebrate him as a hero....it's a got dam shame tbh

Yes he deserved the season. He could have killed her. And it doesn't matter she is still with him, a lot of abused women stay with their abusers. Also, in the state of Texas, if a woman has visible injuries or bruises from a beating, it doesn't matter what she wants, the prosecutor is going to go after that regardless.

The NFL's handling of this, along with others like Greg Hardy, Terrell Suggs, leads to the justifiable dismissal of Goodell, along with all of the other bull he covered up. (Spygate etc. )

Goodell is a moron. If he stuck with the original 2 game suspension this would have blown over a lot faster (by the end of this year it would be a footnote). Instead, this will be a story for years, like the Vick dog thing. It won't go away until long after Rice is reinstated. And unlike the Vick suspension, this one makes Goodell look bad (for giving him only 2 games at first), so as long as it drags on, the longer people are reminded that he's inept.

The only reason it has become such a massive deal is because there's a public video, tbh..

Agreed. It's all about the video. Chad Johnson headbutt his then wife Evelyn a couple years ago and there were pictures of the injuries to her forehead. But he was immediately cut by the Dolphins and hasn't been back in the NFL. But not only did we not really hear anything from the NFL about the incident regarding how they would handle Chad or make rules changes to domestic violence policies, we barely heard of any public outcry on the matter.

I'm sure there have been other incidents of some types of domestic violence we never even heard or read about. This case happened to be accompanied by that initial video of Rice dragging his fiance out of the elevator and then the more recent video from inside the elevator. The public reacts to video (and in some cases audio), not unseen or unheard incidents. The video is what has made this the story it has become. If there were no videos, Rice probably is still playing for the Ravens and the NFL would have justified it the way they did initially by telling the public they had more information about the incident than the public. And the public would buy it, and then it blows over after a little while.

Video and/or audio evidence is often a public trigger on how a story is perceived.

And how Rice's wife has reacted is essentially inconsequential. Perhaps she really truly loves Ray Rice and forgives him. But there's also the possibility she weighed that incident and how she feels about Rice against her million dollar lifestyle and now the possibility of her husband not making millions of dollars every year going forward. Whether true or not, we can assume that at least played a factor in why she has stayed with him, married him, and is now continuing to defend him. Maybe she feels that her lifestyle and being set for life is worth that knockout punch.

The NFL and the Ravens dropped the ball on this, but also the prosecutor. In every aspect of this story, it's all about the money.
