Rice's defense attorney, Michael J. Diamondstein of Philadelphia, then applied for pretrial intervention, a remedy that allows defendants to avoid conviction if they complete a court-ordered set of requirements. According to New Jersey's pretrial intervention website, PTI is a used in criminal cases that don't involve "violence" and for "victimless crimes."

Pretrial intervention for Rice was approved by PTI director Jill Houck and Atlantic County prosecutor Grace Dovell-Welch. And on May 20, New Jersey Superior Court Judge Michael A. Donio approved PTI for Rice at a hearing, according to court do ents.

Agreed. It's all about the video. Chad Johnson headbutt his then wife Evelyn a couple years ago and there were pictures of the injuries to her forehead. But he was immediately cut by the Dolphins and hasn't been back in the NFL. But not only did we not really hear anything from the NFL about the incident regarding how they would handle Chad or make rules changes to domestic violence policies, we barely heard of any public outcry on the matter.

I'm sure there have been other incidents of some types of domestic violence we never even heard or read about. This case happened to be accompanied by that initial video of Rice dragging his fiance out of the elevator and then the more recent video from inside the elevator. The public reacts to video (and in some cases audio), not unseen or unheard incidents. The video is what has made this the story it has become. If there were no videos, Rice probably is still playing for the Ravens and the NFL would have justified it the way they did initially by telling the public they had more information about the incident than the public. And the public would buy it, and then it blows over after a little while.

Video and/or audio evidence is often a public trigger on how a story is perceived.

And how Rice's wife has reacted is essentially inconsequential. Perhaps she really truly loves Ray Rice and forgives him. But there's also the possibility she weighed that incident and how she feels about Rice against her million dollar lifestyle and now the possibility of her husband not making millions of dollars every year going forward. Whether true or not, we can assume that at least played a factor in why she has stayed with him, married him, and is now continuing to defend him. Maybe she feels that her lifestyle and being set for life is worth that knockout punch.

The NFL and the Ravens dropped the ball on this, but also the prosecutor. In every aspect of this story, it's all about the money.
Jam with the now to rare ..."goods". Agree whole-heartedly. Also agree with Kool on one point: SAs was right. Women need to stop placing them selves in bad situations and need to stop provoking men. Some women feel they can talk ish, hit a man, slap him and spit in his face with no consequences. I would never hit a woman but there are plenty out there who will and have. Women's independence has these females thinking that they can be "habitual line-steppers" and not get mushed.

I have two boys but if I had a daughter, I woudl tell her to never stay with a abusive man. I also would tell her there are lines you should not cross with a man and even if you are trained in self -defense men generally have greater upper body strength and testing their tolerance for disrespect is unwise.

Video makes it worse. And a 200 plus pound man doesn't need to knock a woman out to calm her down

What else was there for him to do?..he can't leave the provocative lying there..he would look even more heartless, tbh..
i would never be enough of a to deck a woman like that, but if that situation arose, i'd show some sort of remorse/concern... instead of just standing around like nothing and then literally drag her around

Its always noble to sound nice. But I just finished lunch with an older white woman...she's a MILF we are not ing but she told me that there is a difference between spousal abuse and getting into a fight with your spouse. She believes it was a fight and should not be treated as abuse. I agree with her.

Who cares though? If a wanna beat his wife and shes a hoe and stays with him cause hes rich, why is that your business? He should be allowed to play football and do his job. As far as im concerned thats their business and doesnt affect anyone else.

the girl was not a threat to rice, and he responded with excessive force. unless shes a ing mma fighter, he could easily have grabbed her wrists and just told her to calm the down

Thank you. Some s gotta understand we aint for beatin on hoes, we for s rights.

    1) We dont know the full story, it did look like she threw the first punch, and she definitely tried to attack him a 2nd time. The knockout punch could have been an accident, he prob aint mean to punch her that hard. Keep in mind, this is an NFL running back.

    2) The couple is still together and working out their issues, what happens now is nobodies business but theirs.

    3) The wife even said people are blowing this way out of proportion. What does that mean? Im right.

The "caring" is all for show. Social media encourages conformism and in-group thinking. People put on a display of their outrage/caring because they don't want to be left out, or they don't want people to think they don't care because then they might be ostracized.

Like I said in another thread, all this fake outrage is a result of the media and parts of the country being controlled by special interest and minority groups. If you're not offended over everything, they'll brand you a bigot/racist/sexist and now there's real life repercussions for that.

Of course Stephen A was right. Women will punch, scratch, kick, the whole nine, when they're mad because their gender protects them. if a 120 pound guy goes up to a guy and does that, he knows what he's getting himself into, and women should also be aware of that.

In the Ray Rice situation, however, from the video it looks like he's the aggressor from beginning to end.

Really? If she's out cold you push the emergency stop on the elevator and get medical help. She could have a brain hemorrhage from a blow like that to the head and could have potentially died. You don't just drag her limp body around like a drunk three year old with downs syndrome.
you thought he hit her hard enough to refer to it as a "blow like that?" If Ray Rice had actually thrown his weight into the shot she'd have been in battered.

Most dangerous part of the punch was when she fell to the ground bc you can't protect the back of your head from banging against hard . (rail/ground/etc)

Tbh I can only take these opinions seriously if you've been in that situation before. I have & I didn't hit her back, but I can understand why someone would.

And you don't consider marrying the chick after remorse? If he hits her again and she divorces him, that's a bigger fine than Goodell could ever drop.
