Should have happened a year earlier as far as beating them and back to backs but the only team that could have beaten them got back to the finals PISSED and tore them down! The rest of the NBA can thank then, especially the Bulls out East. Cleveland now is a problem to the East though so he goes and the problem goes elsewhere.

Oh yes, I think it's obvious that he would have. He would have been obligated to, in fact. No sane person leaves a team immediately after winning three straight championships with them.
On the other hand, losing the Finals in the way that they did (i.e., being thoroughly outclassed) made it obvious that he should leave. It became obvious that the Heat were on the decline, that Wade would never be able to help Lebron win another le, and that he would have to look elsewhere to remain a le contender.
The 2014 Finals were a major turning point in Lebron's career, no doubt.

If you read the link, they're thinking of re-packaging him with another large expiring for someone on a big contract. Not sure who they're after. If they're combining him with someone else, I think they have to wait 90 days.
After re-reading, they'll be able to offer Bogan's contract (Next year 5.5M), plus Brenda Hayward's unguaranteed 10.5M for next year to someone for salary relief to get out from under a contract they may no longer want, a total of 16M combined. They can do it at the deadline or next summer.

It's actually impossible, or damn near, to go from under the cap to over the tax in one off season. You lose all of your exceptions for going under.

I thought the same thing. I wonder how his decision would have panned out if the Heat lost to the Spurs, the way the Spurs lost to the Heat in 2013.
If he was truly about only winning les, he would have gone to the Spurs. He is all about winning on his terms and what his ego will allow. I really think he likes to be the center of attention. That is why he left Cleveland years ago then came back there on a short contract.
