Okay. What does that have to do with anything? You know that the actors in "Black-ish" are black too, right?
And why do you keep leaving off the 's' in "minstrel"?
Why do you leave off the 's"
Particular reason why you going on about this, Pops? I simply asked what you meant by "You do know a lot of hillbillies in those old*** mintrel shows***, right?". You still haven't really answered what you meant, so I don't know if I've even answered your original question.
Sorta back fired...huh?
I noticed ya back off....I know more about the minstrel shows than you do. Like I said...no you don't.
What? I literally copied and pasted your quote about "mintrel shows", which is why it had the 's' left off. You do realize that that is the exact quote from you, right? Hence, the quotation marks.
Also, I wasn't asking to make fun of you. I was asking because you were doing it consistently. I saw after researching a bit more that it's actually an extremely rare variant that was popular about 100 years ago. Didn't know if you were going off that.
I didn't back off so much as we didn't really start anything. I said, 'I probably know about minstrel shows than you.' You said, 'No you don't.' I said, 'Whatever,' and then tried to get back to the point of the thread.
Why ignore this?
Trust me this 72 page booklet complete with 48 songs from those who performed in those minstrel schools, totally covers it.
So what was the first minstrel show here in the USA?
Dude....spelling???? Come on man, hahaha!!!!!!
I'm a huge fan of the origins of music I thought you knew that? The who influenses who. and where did it all come from.
I know all there is to know about those minstrel shows, especially here in the USA.
Now it's getting weird. Chump, I asked Avante why he left off the 's' in "minstrel". He responded by quoting me (though he didn't indicate it in his post) quoting his original question to me, which was the first instance of him dropping the 's'. However, he used his own quote as evidence that I too had left off the 's' and was thus caught being hypocritical. Now you take his quoting me quoting him and turn it around to make it seem like he was being the hypocrite. Damn.
Avante either made a consistent spelling mistake or used a rare variant of 'minstrel'. I asked him about it, and he took it the wrong way. That's where we are.

Dude, who gives a about silly like thart? You really that tiny?
Oh look I can't spell..that.
You can't possibly believe that 48 songs cover more than 100 years of music, do you? That doesn't seem to jive with the rest of your persona.
Dunno. I bet I could look it up. But I won't pretend that I knew the answer already. That part of minstrel history was of little interest to me. The affects it had on American culture were more important. So what was the first minstrel show here in the USA?
Again, I was asking about it. Had you only done it once, I would have chalked it up to a spelling mistake and ignored it. But since you did it multiple times, I assumed it was intentional, so I wanted to know why. Contrary to what it may look like, this could/could have been an interesting conversation without all the gamesmanship crap.Dude....spelling???? Come on man, hahaha!!!!!!
The would I know that? Did I miss that edition of your newsletter. That would probably be much more interesting than the track stuff you're always pushing.I'm a huge fan of the origins of music I thought you knew that? The who influenses who. and where did it all come from.
Really random, but all right.I know all there is to know about those minstrel shows, especially here in the USA.
Ever notice when a black person becomes the first black to do something we hear about it?
Hmmmmm?
First black to play in the old SWC...Jerry Levias SMU
First black to...
win the Olympic 100m....Eddie Tolan USA/Michigan 1932 (If not for injuries USC's Howard Drew in 1916 would have been the first)
win an Oscar...Butterfly McQueen Gone With The Wind.
perform on the Grand Old Opry....DeFord Bailey a fantastic harmonica player
QB to win a Superbowl...Doug Williams Redskins/Grambling
gain a 1000 yards in an NFL season....Joe 'The Jet" Perry Niners/Compton JC
win the Heisman...Ernie Davis Syracuse
"I know all there is to know. It's right here in my handbook with 48 songs."

Whatever, wow~~~~~~
Why continue to talk about things you know...0...about?
My 72 page booklet digs deeper than this does...

I thought it was pretty conciliatory, honestly. If you happen to be an expert on the minstrel era, more power to you. As I said, I'd find posts about that much more interesting than ones about old sports.
Hate to break it to ya like this but not too concerned with what you want or don't want. I post about what interests me.
As far as the minstrel shows thing goes, we don't have the "recorded" songs way back when. I do have those from the 20's from those who were successful after they left the circuit.
One in particular was an old bluesman from the Piedmont....Pink Anderson. He's the guy Pink Floyd got the ...Pink.
eh, he claims to be an expert in anything he owns a book/almanac in
I know that we don't have recordings from the early minstrel era. But songs still get passed down through the years. That's definitely true of the old banjo reels (which is the part that made me interested in minstrel shows in the first place).
Didn't know the Pink thing. Interesting, and that will stick with me for much longer than the list of Raiders who won the Heisman trophy.
There are songs like....The House of the Rising Sun....where nobody knows where it came from. All we know is the Animals brought it to our attention. We also know Clarence Ashley recorded the first version here in the USA in 1933. But he didn't write it.
Texas Alexander does a "House of the Rising Sun" in 1928 but it's an entirely different tune.
The Floyd in Pink Floyd
My favorite version of that song is probably the one the Platters did back in the day.
Nope!
It's when ya own 10-12 books and have 50 some years experience.
I was 11 when the old AFL came into existenc, I saw the very first Raider game. Would you believe they were almost called the Oakland Senors? Yep, I know all there is to know about..."your"...Raiders.
I know about the Senors as well. That's why the talk of a move to San Antonio was funny... San Antonio Senors
Do you know what inspired Al Davis' fascination of building a team with elite size/speed?
That was great, only the second time I've heard it. That version along with one Waylon Jennings does are in my opinion the best.
Lead Belly does a version as does the Callahan Brithers. There are others.
This is the original from 1933
Nifty. Has a bluegrassy feel to it. Would have liked it to have a bit more drive, though. It's kind of boring to hear the same exact melody for so long.
We have this version that was sung by a 10-year-old on America's Got Talent last year. Damn that girl's a prodigy.
