Tee hee.
For a harvard guy (not just based on one pre-season game but going back to last year's playoffs) his BBall IQ seems kinda low. My concern is he can only be effective in a free-flowing offense like D'antoni or a ty offense like McHale's ... and when McHalre did run good stuff Lin seemed to be lost ... not sure if it is because Harden is ball dominant, but even if that is the reason Kobe is also ball dominant. I think a structured system is bad for Lin.
We will see. Again I would think he is a smart guy so hopefully it's just a learning curve.
Lol I love making fun of wheelchair but he aint a punk. He had his hands at the ready position as he took a step back. Funny thing is though Noah has the reach advantage he should have "crowded him" if he really wanted to "go".
I love Noah. Cant see why people hate him. he takes rivalries personal.
Lin needs to be ball dominant to.be effective. He cannot catch and shoot. And when he isn't dominating the ball he loses his confidence.
He needs to be able to adjust. he will need to be able to catch and shoot. And Scott typically likes the ball to move maybe he changes his offense a bit for Nash, Kobe and Lin ...but those 3 plus Swaggy all love to the ball in their hand all 3 are better than Lin so he need sto figure it out.
Lin was actually pretty decent last night (10 assists, 1 turnover). He did one thing no other Laker point guard has done well recently which was to run the second unit offense effectively and make sure ball movement was present. I'm honestly liking his chemistry with Ed Davis, these two are going to be good. The starting unit was so predictable, it was still ISO Kobe even at this point so it was a breathe of fresh air to see the second unit play at a different pace. If it wasn't for Clarkson's chuckfest, I'd give them an A-.
Few things I like about this team tho
Athleticism and speed. We had none for the past 3 years. The Nuggets were a good test, I remember watching the Nuggets or Clippers against the Lakers and it was an annual dunk fest for these teams with put backs, alley oops and more easy points in transition. That was really embarassing. Ed Davis, Randle and even the impRived Sacre changed that so far. They're so effective with boxing out their men and protecting the rim last night. For once, we also have perimeter speed in Clarkson and Lin, but they were a bit out of control with shot selection.
Surprised with Randles ability to create his own shot. He looked like a different player when plugged in the second unit. He was very indecisive when playing with the vets, but with the second unit he was a beast when his aggression takes over. I liked how he bodied up Farried in a few occasions. The boy doesn't shy away from contact. That was a good sign.
Ed Davis, loving what I see from him so far. Excellent rim protector, great timing cutting to the basket and has a soft touch. I also like Ellington. Dude was money. Makes me feel better losing Meeks, especially at his price tag.
Lin will get his chance as long as he's with the second unit, the Lakers have no one else who can bring the ball for the reserves. He looks good there. Scott should do himself a favor and plug Clarkson (keep him in check) with the starters or have a third stringer like Ronnie Price in the lineup when Nash is either injured or not playing at all. Lin wouldn't work with Kobe that much is true.
Yes his stats were Ok but he also had a couple additional posessions that led to TO's even if it wasnt on his ledger. I think one where Kobe had to force a shot and another that led to a scramble. Again I am talking more about last year's playoffs more than a random pre-season game. he absolutely cost the Rockets one of their playoff losses, with two bone-headed plays late. No one is perfect, even the GOAT PG Magic and the current le holde Chris Paul have made mistakes that have cost playoff games. But those other two have done so much else (especially Magic) you can forgive the occasional flubb. Lin doesnt get tghat leash from me. And if (when most likely) Nash gets hurt Lin becomes even more important. I hope he proves me wrong but I dont trust him ...
And I NEVER like Boozer. He has solid Duke fundamentals he can box out and get the "Easy" board, make open lay-ups and jumpers. But when contested he bricks almost everything cannot get tehe crucial board, sucks on defense and screams like woman when he misses the 2-3 open shots he misses per game. Not only do I not trust him I cannot stand him. But he is a Laker and I hope he also proves me wrong.
Like Clarkson, Randle, Ed Davis those were all solid additions. I would like to see Randle gain confidence in his jumper.
Getting checked by Thibs
It would take time with Lin but as long as he doesn't step out of bounds with his role, he's fine. The right approach with Lin is to be realistic. People are expecting him to go Super Nova and bring back Linsanity. He's not going to be that player. If he can give us 13ppg, 6apg in decent percentage I'm satisfied.
Boozer is here to collect a paycheck, you can tell.
Noah is like Garnett without the achievements and the once feared offense imho. Even worse, he's overrated and a that doesn't bite.
Maybe. but I remember him calling out Lebron's Cavs, KG's Celts, he hustles hard and has won it all as a collegian and has kept his pro team compe ive even when Rose went down and Deng left. He maybe overrated by some in teh media but I really like him despite his ugly jumper ...
I think on the right team (OKC?) he could do what tyson did for dem 2011 Mavs ...if they get rid of Brooks too ...
YYou make good points, I guess it's just me, I really tend to hate players who get overrated so much by the media or fans.![]()
Come on though 100, as amazingly good as Lebron is even he gets overrated to some degree ...same with Magic, Bird, Jordan and of course Kobe. the biggest wave of overrating players happens after a le run.
'
I love KL, outside of A.Davis is probably my favorite rising star but he is now being overrated. Wade in 2006 same thing people were making jordan comparisons. Dirk after 2011. Kobe is definitely overrated by many so I get the hate but he gets underrated here with the MVPau stuff. Doesnt bother me me much anymore (overrating) I say my piece and move on. Kobe was on 5 le teams and 3 finals losers teams it would make sense he is overrated
All of those you mentioned have either accomplished a lot in the pro scene, atleast won the 'ship once, and are basketball icons.
Noah, Rose etc etc (list of overrated players right now) don't have anything to show for it.
You are right, Noah has not won in the pros. but he has been on only one team (Bulls in 2011?) that were LEGIT le contenders. IF rose is healthy this will be the 2nd team let's see how Noah and the Bulls do. I doubt they win a le, (Cavs and Spurs would be tough to beat) but if they make ECf and push Cavs to 6 or 7 that would be impressive.
