Speaking of sword & sorcery and Conan got me thinking about a guy similiar to REH named H.P.Lovecraft. While he was more into horror and the supernatural he also mastered place like Howard. He put you on that hill after midnight staring down at a lone light in the village, then it goes out. You'd actually get the chills reading him.
I have a ton of REH/H.P.Lovecraft and while I never read any book twice (too many others I need to get to) if I did I'd start there.
