it affects people's judgment on several issues in ways that impact others. if certain folks had their way, schools would teach the bible and not science. if that was actually implemented, imagine the consequences it could have, slowing technological and medical advancement. it breeds less critical thinking about the world. it clouds people's judgment on social issues like gay marriage as well. things like that, mainly.

my beef isn't really with theism, its with religious ins utions. unfortunately, they go hand in hand more often than not

you can absolutely have one without the other. religion refers to the very specific stories in the holy books, the bible, the quran, the torah, etc. Theism is simply believing that there is a god type being who started the universe. Chinook has made it clear he is a theist but isn't religious

its a far cry from "figure that initiated the universe" to "being that created the universe, created the earth in 7 days, made man in his image, passed down 10 commandments, sent his son to earth, has heaven and , loves everybody." its quite a leap between these two steps.

but good to see the truth comes out. you used to say you believed in God but thought the bible was full of crap. but now you are saying you cant have god without religion. therefore you are calling yourself a christian (based on references to churches, gospel, "God's Not Dead").

I'm no Christian but live with one and grew up around them. The first thing ya notice is how far happier they are than non believers, it's obvious. I have no doubts 'something" far deeper than....BANG!...is responsible for all this, but unlike Christians I don't know what it was, while they do (they believe they do so they do).

Who/what was the causative agent in your paradigm? Was it a sky daddy? Sentient quarks? A quantum fart? An ethereal being with too much TNT and time on its hands? <Shrug>

its actually quite simple ... you either make a claim that there is a creator, or you don't make a claim that there is a creator. to this point you have refused to make that claim.
