I think he meant the Memphis Grizzlies.
I think he meant the Memphis Grizzlies.
He sounds like a butthurt Phoenix Sun fan circa 2007.
I love me some Fitz, but he's off here. They've got a ways to go before they can say that.
This guy gets it.
I think you missed the analogy.
but he didnt praise them properly

Exactly. Plus, they were beautiful to watch. This wasnt 2007, WTF?
He never said the Spurs don't play beautiful basketball. The Spurs are a blue collar team and they win a ton of grind it out, ugly, sloppy games.
This.
Our game is still ugly sometimes.
Might as well move them back to LA.
I can't think of any ugly sloppy games in the last few years.
It's a backhanded compliment, imo
We're not flashy. We'll take all those ugly, nasty, sloppy wins.
The Spurs will take wins however they can get them but they haven't been what he described since 2007. Now, when they are at their best, they are a smooth, fluid team that kills their opponents with precision and execution.
He was complimenting the Spurs -no doubt- but I thought what he described was best suited for the previous Spurs mantra of "Four-down", play killer defense and limit your mistakes teams.
The Spurs are not a blue-collar, grind-it-out team. That's the Grizzlies. If anything, the Spurs' highly complex and intricate, motion-based, read-and-react offense is the most white-collar system in basketball.
Whoever they are they are smashing dallas this weekend
Do you have any takes that aren't ?
SpursTalk is a funny and fickle beast.
As others have said...you don't get this kind of praise unless you are the standard-bearer; unless you are setting the bar for excellence. As if every other NBA team looking up to the Spurs wasn't enough, we now have teams from the NFL and MLB wanting in on that mentality.
I know that it's not the perfect analogy. The Spurs don't grit and grind like they did from 1999-2007. But just because they had one Finals series that was some of the most beautiful basketball anyone has ever seen...that doesn't take away what made them great. A year ago, everyone would still agree that 98% of people found the Spurs "boring"...are we supposed to believe that has really changed THAT much?
But go ahead and find something else to about, everybody.
They turned it over 20 times in game 1 of 82 and nearly blew a 10 point lead with seven and change remaining. They played a very underwhelming first half but, managed to win. It was pretty ugly at times, and very sloppy. The Spurs litter the regular season with many of these types of games so don't act like they don't exist.
How's Ayres working out for you so far crud muffin? I here he's doing some things.... Future looks bright for both of you. I won't get anymore sophisticated than that because I know I'll lose you chicken little.

No one is ing about getting praised for winning. , there used to be comments about an "*" when it came to the Spurs 1st Championship. What is tired is that some people still think of them as winning with a grind-it-out, boring style. That's just wrong. It hasn't been just 1 Finals series where they played beautiful basketball. Its been 2 Finals in a row and 1 WCF. They had to re-create themselves and their system after the 1st round exit in the 2010-2011 season. It's going on 4 years now, catch up already. This is all about Fitzgerald using a dated analogy. Most talking heads absolutely gush at the Spurs' current style of basketball.
Who called them boring?
Patriots are the Spurs of the NFL winning championships with minimal talent but a sophisticated system
Patriots haven't won a Super Bowl since 2004.
Wow, he's way off. The spurs have a beautiful, elegant, explosive offense. He's probably thinking of the old 99-07 spurs.
