Oh boy this math is making my head hurt but here's what I think we're all getting to.

Thompson making 17m would get him the same purchasing power in California as Leonard getting 14m would get him in Texas (obviously the numbers arent exact but the values are correctly swayed).

So if Leonard wants the same 17m, it'd be like Thompson making 20m or more in California money.

It's like an exchange rate apropos to the dollar and the euro, with the latter being what is used in Texas.

The whole tax situation is overplayed, tbh... yes, it's a few extra millions but not as much as people make it out to be. Don't forget that players do pay state income taxes for games they play on the road (in other states, at each state's tax rate). There was an article not that long ago explaining the whole thing. The gains were, relatively speaking, fairly minor.
Jock tax are pennies compared to state tax though...

So how does this work? Can more than one team offer him a contract next summer and if they do, the Spurs match the highest one?

yeah, it's more complex than just taxes... there's endorsement opportunities, etc.
Endorsement opportunities are overplayed as well. If your good, endorsements will find you. I'm pretty sure Durant isn't suffering any in the Meth capital of the world and I don't think Lebron will have any trouble landing endorsements in C-Town either.

That is also complex... depends on the player's marketability, whether there's a national audience, etc

I don't care if it was the preseason or today... Kawhi ISO's are horrible to watch. He's not a max player, but hey, anyone is nowadays.

He barely touched the ball lmao, he had 3 solid passes 1/3 were made. He got 1 assist from TP late into the shot clock for a rushed 3, a turn around on Bledsoe that he rushed and missed, a wide open jumper from the FT line he missed which he usually makes at a high %, he got swatted but it was a good play. Other than that he got the ball sparingly especially from TP, but I guess getting into a rhythm means nothing lol. Players should be automatic, even if they touch the ball every 5 minutes.

So you're saying he needs plays to score? KD was right

When his Pg would rather pass to Daye/Green/Diaw jacking up 3's, yes he needs plays. Otherwise he gets ignored.

    No.
He just needs to play, no plays. If he's on the bench half game he can't score a ton of points.
He just needs the ball. If he never touch the ball he can't be aggressive offensively.

I don't care if it was the preseason or today... Kawhi ISO's are horrible to watch. He's not a max player, but hey, anyone is nowadays.
He hasn't played any game in a month, obviously he looks rusty.
But he got only 5 touches in all game and played only 1:30 in all 4th quarter...

I think that his Kobewhi version in the scrimmage and the first preason season game needs work but was pretty interesting.
Sadly, we'll see another regular season of low Kawhi minutes/plays/touches, and he'll get frustrated enough to leave the team next summer.

Like you said the Spurs shouldn't match a max offer so you'll be happy, no more Leonard in SA.

His struggles won't last. The way he looked in the Finals and in the Scrimmage.... He's just rusty.
