When I saw him come into season w beard I immediately thought of that very same pic. He came into 2008 so lax that his first play was to make a joke. He's gonna take it easy this season.
Has nothing to do with any other team in the league. He played mad scientist with the rotation early last season too. Expect to see a lot of Ayres, Daye, and Baynes in the early going. About the only one you likely won't see is Anderson because Pop hates rookies.
He went with his best lineup to close out the 4th quarter, but they screwed up, bad shooting, turnovers, leaving Thomas, etc way too open. PHX wanted it more, they got it.
Better he experiment now than in the post-season. My only gripe with Pop last night was him giving Ayres any playing time. Jeff's a failed project - no idea why the Spurs management is still wasting time with him. Maybe they feel obligated to play him since they foolishly gave him MLE money last year. In any case, Ayres playing time should be going to Kyle Anderson or Baynes. Just based on the pre-season games, I'm already convinced Anderson is a MUCH better player than Errors.

Leonard had not played in a month and Mills and Splitter have not played a minute yet.
The Spurs will grind out November and December and roll after that (with good health).
We've seen sluggish play early in the season a few times.
Since we're still in the Spurs' version of preseason (any game before March), I watched the Champions Revealed film from NBA TV. Awesome program, if you can find the whole thing online.

I caught that very same show a little while ago. It was really really good and not a cut and paste thing like the Championship video was. I enjoyed it a lot.

Not worried at all...early last season folks were saying how we couldn't beat the good teams, yet we still won #5.
