The fundamental problem with Republicans or Democrats assigning their political ideology to Jesus Christ is that he wasn't necessarily advocating for any of his policies to be the law of the land.
sucking Saul's from Romans rather than admit it's a contradiction.

That's beside the point. Jesus advocated precepts that fell under a very specific system of morality. And that system happens to be liberal and progressive. Jesus spoke in favor of equality, tolerance, concern for the oppressed and downtrodden--all principles that are espoused by the Democratic Party.
Republicans will say they believe in those things but that it should be voluntary and not government-mandated.

So Jesus Christ also allows women to kill their unborn babies, even without the consents of their husbands (if they have)?
Liberals don't like abortion any more than conservatives, and we regret that it happens.

But we believe that a woman's right to choose and have autonomy over her own life takes precedence over that of a clump of cells.

By saying voluntary, you're implying it's optional. So you're saying Republicans believe that fostering "equality, tolerance, and concern for the oppressed" should be optional. Meaning, I can choose to care for my neighbours, but whether I do so or not is entirely at my discretion.

I don't think that's what Jesus meant at all.

I'm quite sure He didn't, but you'll never convince the peanut gallery.

This is brilliant. Everyone should watch this and see the contradiction that is conservative Christianity.

So you're saying liberals (who claim to distance themselves from religion) are more in touch with Jesus? Isn't that also a contradiction?

I'm not saying we're "more in touch" with Jesus (I haven't prayed to Him in years, ever since I became an atheist). I'm saying that our system of morality is more in line with Jesus' teachings than conservatives' system of morality.

So you think that the government should not follow the teaching of Christ if you are a Christian? There is a difference between being Christ and following his edicts.

I was raised to abhor Christians of convenience but it seems that is all that is left.

What does that say about the Christians in government who want to erect tablets of the 10 Commandments in front of every courthouse in America?
