It's a bad thing when it's done on the basis of privilege. The very purpose of affirmative action is to give historically disadvantaged groups of people a chance to catch up. Applying affirmative action for those who already have all the advantages of the world defeats the purpose of doing it in the first place.

The overwhelming majority of immigrants immigrate because they are poor and/or persecuted, not because they are risk-takers, entrepreneurs, wealthy, privileged seeking more wealth, privilege.
