bend over ill show you some bad defense
I actually think his D has been better than expected. Trust me........ the Mavs defense sucks from all angles right now, no reason to single out CP
He scored 30 points last night and almost had a double double, but still had a negative +/- because of defense (-5)
Every player on the Mavs had a negative plus/minus.... not a real shocker there. Point is, Parsons is the least of the Mavs problems right now. Without him last night they aren't even in that game.
They desperately need another big man behind Tyson
They shoulda kept Dejuanaburger.
They need perimeter defense, like in 2011. And a pg.
This. His D is not as worse as mentioned here. The whole team needs to get up on D.
I just thought we concentrated too much on improving the offense this off season. Ariza would've been the ideal choice IMO. He can do both offense and defense.
Yeah, shooting an awesome .381...
Ariza's defense makes up for it.
This. He hasn't been a defensive stalwart, but his defense has not been quite as bad as people are making it out to be. His bad defense is generally due to laziness to close/rotate, or lapses (fixable things, that Carlisle can hopefully get worked out as the season goes on), as opposed to being a guy that just gets dominated on the defensive end (something that simply cannot be fixed).
Actually, that had little to nothing to do with his plus minus. Dirk and Monta playing like absolute trash had more to do with it.
Dallas's perimeter defense is the reason I've been pessimistic about them since the Summer, while many people considered and still consider them to be legit contenders..
You can't win an NBA le when only 1 player in your starting 5 is an above average defensive player, tbh..
Nelson- terrible
Ellis- average
Parsons- average
Dirk- average
Chandler- good
Harris and Wright are solid 2-way players that can fill in, but the other plus defender on the roster(Aminu) is going to kill their offense with his atrocious perimeter shooting..they're a good defensive piece away..
That 2011 team had 3 elite defenders in Kidd, Marion and Chandler..
Perimeter defense, yes it definitely needs to improve. However, the PG situation (aside from defense) is adequate, considering how much Ellis, Parsons, and Dirk get the ball in their hands. Nelson, Harris and Barea has offensively handled the PG position just fine. Nelson with the starting lineup mainly needs to spot up for 3s, while Harris and Barea need to attack when in off the bench. They don't really need a floor general type PG who sets everything up, because Dirk and Ellis mostly handle that, and Barea does a great job of it while in games.
+ Stevenson. Man, what a D that was! And Haywood as a backup for Chandler was luxury.
I miss Jason Kidd. I'll never forget him shutting Kobe/LeBron/Westbrook/Wade down in the 4th quarters of that playoff run.
Aminu isn't some supreme shooter, but he's no different offensively than Marion (who couldn't shoot either), except that he can actually handle the ball decently. He's a better player than people give him credit for being.
Kidd's defense had some nice moments in the clutch, but was generally overrated and far from elite, in fact he was often being ragged on for his defense that year. He had a couple nice possessions in the playoffs against Kobe and Durant that caused everyone to overreact and classify him back as an elite defender, when he really wasn't. He frequently got raped by anyone with an ounce of speed.
Didn't some say in the Dallas-Spurs series last season how Dirk's defense is some of the worst ever?
I doubt Dirk is even average tbh.
He didn't shut anyone down. He had a couple good possessions here and there against Kobe and Durant, and basically just dared Westbrook to shoot. He really was just kinda fortunate he didn't have to run into any real quick guards like Parker or CP3, otherwise they would have made mincemeat of him like they usually did.
Dirk is still a decent on man defender, and is good about ensuring people are properly positioned on defense, but is a TERRIBLY lazy help defender, which is the most important aspect of team defense.
202th in DRPM.

29th in Salary for 50th in RPM production, 111th in PER.
Overpaid, but obviously not a trash player. Good 2nd/3rd option stealing Dirk's hard earned money.
Bend over, you'll get a big man behind you.
Leonard>>>Parsons
Switch them, Mavs are instantly the best in the West, he'd elevate everyone's game.
