The biggest hurdle to his entire carrer has been his ego. Without that he may have some more rings and be in a much different spot.

Byron has to run it by Kobe to see if it's ok.... which is just another reason why this team is so terrible. He should be ordering Kobe to stop taking stupid, contested shots, but instead is asking him--the guy who's hurting the team most--, "Hey, is it, um, ok if, uh, I rest you for a game or two so you don't shoot 30% from the field again?"
That's exactly why Byron Scott was hired, though..there's no way an NBA franchise would hire him in 2014 with the intention of winning, especially with the way his stints ended in Cleveland and New Orleans..

This always makes me chuckle. Writers show their bias when they differentiate between "best team in the league" and "team with the best record in the league" based on how they want to portray their subject. In this case, Michael Wilbon wants to portray the Lakers sans Kobe as a team who beat a streaking team, while if Kobe was playing and the Lakers won, they would have beaten the best team in the league.
