This sounds like the UK to me. The English are almost as confused by sexuality as their North American cousins. I wouldn't necessarily consider every aspect of every European culture as respectful (no, the US doesn't have a monopoly on idiots - it only appears so on message boards) but a lot of what you describe above just wouldn't happen in many countries.

At the same time there are big differences country to country. I wouldn't even try to compare how Italians treat women compared to Scandinavians.

While mysoginy is present in EU politics it's nowhere as bad as in US politics and public life - women in a position of power apparently scare the out of Americans.
