Calling it now: This was a great ing pickup for Houston. He's trash as a starter, yes, but as long as he knows his role, it makes Houston a better and deeper team. I would've liked him on the Spurs, but I guess the FO is content with only having one legitimate small forward on the team.
He can't play SF offensively or defensively. Houston uses him strictly as a 4.
Yeah, you're right. He got torched last year playing SF (but would he still be a better choice than Daye or Anderson?). Wonder how he would fit in our PF rotation? Can't use him as a stretch 4. Can't use him as a point forward (like Diaw). Can't use him as a defensive paint anchor.

He could play alongside Diaw as a 4th big, but the frontcourt would be pretty small (tho Smith is a good rebounder). His ballhandling isn't too bad either. The problem is he's a cancer.
Still took five threes last game and will never stop wasting possessions with the notion that he can shoot as long as he is in the league apparently so would never want him on my team

He was playing against one of the 3 worst defensive frontcourts in the league, tbh..
Smith looks fine in the post and going against players his own size in the paint, but he's going to keep taking those long 2s and 3s with Houston playing him at Point Forward..even with Howard, their spacing sucks, so he'll keep shooting those ugly jump shots..
