My reaction the first time I was Paris and went out to visit Versailles and saw its opulence, I thought "Damn, no wonder the people revolted".
Next day, I rode the Metro (subway) and the stench was so bad I thought "Damn, no wonder the aristocracy moved to Versailles".
Seriously, Versailles is a singular testament to the 1% of its day (I guess really more like the top 1, period). The Louvre requires at least a couple or three days, preferably, to see the artworks with enough time to really admire them.
If you care at all about art, do yourself a favor and go the Rodin museum in Paris. The most sensuous sculptures in the world. (The Kiss, The Thinker, The Burghers of Calais, The Gates of , etc. etc. etc.) Awe-inspiring, tbh.
Definitely do not miss Paris. You just stand in the middle of the city and look at major art works in every direction. Beautiful, beautiful city.
Lyon is the gastronomic center of France (or at least used to be).
