I wonder how Memphis is going to utilize Green, tbh..he's a mediocre shooter and not a playmaker..6th man?
Don't they start Lee and Allen? I would start Green at the 3 and have Allen off the bench.

    Ainge doesn't do things halfway.

I hope he is planning to roll some of these picks over until they are unprotected.
Do you still think Ainge has hardon for Love?

I think someone can/will sign him away from Cavs in offseason.

No McHale to gift him Garnett this time though.

No way Cavs don't pay him the max, not when James can walk in a year.

He's unrestricted. He's gaining first-hand experience of Bosh's warning, and, frankly, I think Kevin loves his stats and s om more than barely winning more in third-wheeldom than he did as unquestioned #1.

He stays in the East, is #1, gets his stats, his money, his fame, and with Ainge, a savvy GM capable of bringing in complementary pieces via trade/draft.

Man would that be hilarious now that Wiggins has really been blowing up the last few weeks.

Might not, but the way he did Minny, I don't think he's going to like being scapegoated by the Cavs when they crash and burn. Seeing Bosh's mini-revival this year, he might opt to get the out while he's in control and Boston has the CAP, the picks, the market that he'd love.

Love is going to LA. He'll suck it up playing with Kirby for a year so he can be the top dog afterwards. In that situation I'd really wanna see Kirby sign for another 48.5.

He's done the LA thing... In college. East Coast has draw since crappy teams make the playoffs, and, for all the star power LA has, Boston will fall all over themselves for Love.

Lakers don't have the draw they once did. They aren't even the grandest show in town.

Love, if he leaves, will be fleeing a ball-dominant situation. He's not going to suffer Kobe and a half-dozen years to rebuild in a loaded West. Would have been better to stay in Minny.

He isn't that aware imo. He sees LA and thinks of the Lakers of old.

    I don't see it.

Maybe, but he toughed it out west for way too long. He's still young enough that he, Smart and a ton of 1sts makes the playoffs in the East.

So I guess the deal is this:

Grizzlies get: Jeff Green and Russ Smith
Celtics get: Tayshaun Prince, John Salmons, the Grizzlies 1st round pick
    Pelicans gets: Quincy Pondexter

    Good trade.

I'm aware that Jeff Green has his flaws, but he's an upgrade over what the Grizzlies have.

Like to for the Grizzlies to upgrade the backup PF position if they can.

Not sure why the Pelicans are willing to help out the Grizzlies just to get Q-Pon.

    Damn

Likely not as good as it first appears on paper.

"Potentially" is an important word there as I would guess several of those picks are conditional/protected first round picks for a number of years. And I would also guess that several of those picks end up being mid to late first round picks. Would be more impressive if it were 11 guaranteed lottery picks. Then we could talk about how that is how you rebuild. People on these boards laugh about the Lakers giving all those picks to Phoenix for Nash. So far, who did Phoenix draft with those picks anyway? Nemanja Nedovic, Alex Oriakhi?

First round picks may or may not be valuable. Depends what the team does with them and how good their scouting and drafting people are.

They are valuable regardless of what you do with them. Just because you blow a pick, doesn't mean the asset wasn't a valuable one. He won't keep all the picks either. He will overpay (which he should) to move up in drafts and trade for other players he likes. You don't need 11 draft picks - that's a ton of roster spots and could create long-term issues.

Crazy how far name recognition will take you in the NBA. Jeff Green is and always has been mediocre. He isn't a good enough 3pt shooter for it to matter and has no midrange game whatsoever, so it's difficult to see him paired with Gasol and ZBo on the court tbh. Throw in Tony Allen and you could basically guard Conley and send everyone else to stand in the lane. I always prefer defensive players like Allen to start and not come off the bench, as it makes no sense to sick Allen on backups to me. But I think they have to keep Lee in the lineup for spacing. It might be interesting to have Green come off the bench at PF with one of Gasol or Randolph. I guess I just think they shoulda pursued Teletovic, Frye, or Ryan Anderson and not a mediocre tweener forward that can't really shoot. They traded Tay Prince and a first for a minor upgrade with pretty bad career playoff stats. Can't help but think that having Prince in the locker room in the Playoffs woulda counted for something.

Green would be best suited as a backup PF/SF getting around 20-25 minutes.
