Likely gonna kill their le chances after this year. They draft well, so maybe not, but they benefitted from a cheap, very good QB, and now they just paid him more than they likely were spending on entire offensive skill position players combined.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports, via sources involved in the situation, Russell Wilson is expected to become the NFL's highest-paid quarterback when the Seahawks sign him to a long-term extension in the coming offseason.
Wilson's rookie contract runs through the 2015 season, but the organization intends to take care of him this year rather than next.
As a means to that end, they jettisoned Percy Harvin's inflated salary and extended the contracts of nucleus defensive starters Cliff Avril and K.J. Wright.

Good, since I dislike Seahawks I like this decision. 49ers case reapeating
Pretty much..it's the conundrum in the NFL today, paying your QB is essentially suicide for your le chances..
Good for him. If I was slightly better than a game manager and in line to make elite money I'd take it too.
Sucks for Lynch, tbh..carries the offense for years, shortens his lifespan by taking vicious hits all game, but Wilson receives all the credit and all the money..
Such is life for an NFL RB. The credit will always go to the QB tbh.
As long as wilson rings this year.
He should be the highest paid player on his team, but not in the league. I don't think he does more for his team compared to the elite QBs in this league.
Russell Wilson is simply amazing, I saw that at Wisconsin.
All those...STILL..running the guy down are dumb as a rock.
I'm not salty. I think he should be the highest paid player on the team, but to make him the highest player in the league is questionable when it's not proven he can do for his team what the elite QBs like Manning, Brady, Rodgers, and Brees have done in the past few seasons which is carry bottom 5 defenses to 12-13 win seasons and playoff/Super Bowl runs. Wilson has played on a defense which has been 1st, 1st, and 1st the past 3 seasons. To be fair, the Hawks offense has been 6th, 3rd, and 9th the past 3 seasons in points per possession so they are getting the job done. I think he should get close to top 5 money, but not the most.
If Seattle is actually serious about their "fair compe ion at every position" thing, they should draft a real QB to compete with Struggle instead of giving that scrub a fat extension.
Nah he dropped truth nukes
When you have a 26 year old QB who has already won more SB's than...
Chargers
Browns
Lions
Bills
Vikings
Falcons
ans
Texans
Jags
Cards
combined....you pay him.
Yep... clearly, the Ravens should have made Dilfer the highest-paid QB in football.
