Rod Marinelli Agrees to 3 year deal with Cowboys
I like it. Keep building towards next season. Romo gonna Elway his way to a couple of rings![]()
I don't like the Cowboys, that star sucks, but....
I think we are seeing the beginning of a Superbowl winning team here. They have everything starting to fall in place.
Great owner...$$$$$
Stabilty at that coach/QB combo
Great running back
Great TE
Great receiver
Monster 0 line
Good enought D that is on the brink with a few additions. More about free agents than draft picks.

RIP Cowboys
That was stupid!
I think Garrett is a pushover coach, but he does have the buy in of the players which is huge. You can tell he is well liked by the team. I disagree with 5 years, should have been 3.
Troll Alert!!!!!!!!!
As much as I'd like to agree with you, Jerry Jones is not a good owner. He refuses to hire a general manager to run the team which has been the problem for quite some time. Romo and Witten are another year older, and Witten has been getting slower the last 2 years. Murray is not coming back. We can't afford him. The defense will be a question mark as usual, but a healthy Sean Lee would be nice for starters. In theory, they could be a Superbowl winning team, but their window is closing fast.
5 years might be kind of excessive, but I don't see much wrong with the resign at all, considering now that chemistry is finally clicking for the Cowboys. No need to mess that up with a new head coach.
Think the last year or two Jerry would eat with no hesitation if the wheels fell off ...SO a % year Deal is prbably a 3.5 year deal. A 3 year deal is only about a two year extension I think JG earned that kind of "security" from Jerry. Glad to see Rod back too. Now we just need Scott Linehan.
With the Redskins and Giants on the rebuild and the Eagles murky future at QB, Dallas is going to be vying for the NFC East probably for the next 2-3 years? So the continuity may be right here instead of having to insert a new coach, system, and whatever other nuances needed to rule that roost. Interesting how one year turns the tide of the firing rumblings from years past. Good for him.
Well, he's basically being paid for the performance of one season. That's what I'd be concerned with if I was a Cowboys fan.
I think the NFC East will be better next year by default. The Giants suffered major injuries to their weapons on offense (Odell wasn't on the field until it was too late), the offensive line of the Eagles was decimated and consequently Foles and Shady looked worse than they are. Sanchez played OK but I don't think he's better than Foles. While the skins are a mess in general, they had a lot going on with injuries at QB with at least 3 different QB's starting. They lost their number one DB, all the while getting acclimated to a new H.C. and what he wanted implemented scheme wise. And while everybody deals with injuries every year, and some degree of flux every year, to some extent the Cowboys benefitted from having a large degree of continuity on the offensive side of the ball. Which, no other team in the division had the benefit of.
Granted their defense played above their ability all year, and to some degree everyone is expecting that same performance while adding a piece or two from the draft and FA. I'm just not convinced of Garrett yet, based on one season of success. I'd be cautiously optimistic more than anything, and I'd not be in favor of the length of this contract. Although Jerry could -can anybody at any given time and his wallet wouldn't take a hit![]()
I think this signing is deeper than one winning season. It's obvious that he has his team behind him and is respected and liked by his guys. He is active in the war room, and I'm sure he and Stephen Jones are making the decisions on personnel and staff. His vision is what he is being brought back for IMO, the record is only a reflection of finally having the pieces in place to execute that vision.
I don't know how much architectural credit to give him, as I am not privy to the day, nor do I have interest. But from an outsiders perspective, it looks like he has input, but is a yes man for the most part (Because it seems that's what Jerry wants for the most part). As far as player loyalty is concerned, many a player have followed all types of coaches whether they were excellent, poor and everything in between. But he's basically being paid what Tom Coughlin has been getting paid. I don't put him on the same level. But I may be completely wrong, I guess only time will tell. Maybe there's a story yet to be written.
He's no longer a yes man according to Jerry Jones. Stephen and Jason Garrett had to force the old man to sit down and shut the up so they could draft Zack Martin instead of Manziell, and Jerry was butthurt about that months down the road in some article. Jerry then raved about the decision to select Martin after a few games of watching him dominate the right side. Jerry is gonna have his input in everything of course, but he is not approving or denying decisions from the staff anymore.
Well that's good. It seems most of his tenure has been dominated by the brass. Perhaps he was more right than wrong during his tenure when they haven't taken his advice and they're coming around to it.
Yeah, it's a painful cycle with Jerry. What he does is takes the reigns when they are doing well with record and attendance, and starts making decisions with merchandise in mind. Then after several years of fan groaning over the state of the franchise, he steps aside (won't say it's back unless we're talking about the Parcells hire) and let's others take over the personnel decisions. I expect this idiot to go back to his old ways in a season or two.
I'm just happy they got Linehan so Garrett could go about being a HC instead of using Callahan as a puppet tbh. I think this year proved that should have been done a few seasons ago.
I'm not sure who the biggest Jerry Jones bootlick is:
Switzer, Campo or Garrett.
I can't think of any other team that would want Garrett as a head coach.
The coordinators on both sides did some work this year. Jerry should overpay both of them.
