I'll just say, I find it nearly impossible to believe anyone in the NFL is capable of running anything close to a 10 sec 100m. My thoughts.. you lined up all the so-called fastest players (and they are fast) in the NFL, legitimately timed them in the 100, your best time would hover around 10.3-10.4. Professional sprinters are much much lighter and much much faster than NFL players. Apples oranges, fellas.
I totally agree just one season out of college and a Jacoby Ford who was a legit 10.01 would be lucky to run a sub 10.20 if that.
That was more about all the great sprinters (many Olympians) who did play in the NFL. Only a few were sprinters trying to be footballers, most were two sport stars.
Then we had the hurdlers. All sub14.0
Jerry Tarr
Richmond Flowers
Bennie McRae
Tyrone Wheatley
Gene Washington
Willie Gault
Earl McCullouch
Spider Gaines
Rod Woodson
James Owens
long jumpers. All over 26.0
Bo Roberson
Latin Berry
Paul Warfield
James Lofton
Vance Johnson
Johnny Hector
James McAlister
Chris Sanders
Eric Metcalf
Ron Jessie
What happened to this guy? He realized nobody cared and wanted to can it.
Bring him back
Love the attention, hahaha!!!!!!!!!!!
How about the All Time NFL 4x1 relay?
lane
1.Niners...Trindon Holliday...James Owens...Ray Norton....Renaldo Nehemiah
2.Chiefs...Ken Thomas...Sammie Parker...Jamaal Charles...Stone Johnson
3.Raiders "A"....Jacoby Ford...Ron Brown...Sam Graddy...Alvis Whitted
4.Cowboys...Richmond Flowers...Herschel Walker..Terrance Newman...Bob Hayes
5.Raiders "B"...Cliff Branch...James Trapp...James Jett...Michael Bennett
6.Giants...Homer Jones...Clarence Childs...Henry Carr...Butch Woolfolk
7.Oilers...Herkie Walls...Ken Burroughs..Travis Hannah...Tony Jones
8.Bills...JD Hill...O.J.Simpson..Marquise Goodwin...Elbert "Golden Wheels" Dubenion
9.Raiders "C"...Rocket Ismail...Alexander Wright...Bo Roberson...Bo Jackson
Right now the Bills could run....
C.J.Spiller...Marquise Goodwin...Sammy Watkins...Robert Woods
Nobody could touch them.
or we have some "unknowns" that could put together sub 10.5 second 100m...
Poopshoot Magoo - 10.24
Stinkbox Potato Head - 10.17
Swift Sam Jones - 10.00 (wind aided)...cat still ran a 10.49 otherwise
Willie Fister - 9.95 !!!!! could also play tenor sax
i would hardly call Michael Bennett a raider. he has 11 rushing yards with us. bo jackson is a better alternative for the B team, and i'd move Stanford Routt into the C team
Actually I ed up, I should have had Willie Gault on that "B" team.
The Raiders could run...
lane
1.Willie Gault...10.10 Olympian
2.Cliff Branch...9.2y
3.James Trapp...10.14
4.Jacoby Ford...10.01
5.Ron Brown..10.06 Olympian
6.Sam Graddy...10.09 Olympian
7.James Jett....10.16 Olympian
8.Alvis Whited...10.07
"B"
lane
1.Tim Dwight...10.33
2.Stanford Routt...20.6ish 200m (better here)
3.Napolean Kaufman..Cali State 100m champ while at Lompoc
4.Justin Fargas...Cali State 100m champ while at ND
5.Bo Jackson...9.5y
6.Alexander Wright...NFL Fastest Man
7.Michael Bennett...10.18
8.Rocket Ismail...NCAA 60 medalist
There are countries that can't compare to that.
How about these real sprinters?
Ebanizar Edmonds SJDelta
Mozelle Ellerbe Tuskegee
Theolonious Bush Texas Southern
Eulace Pea Temple
Grundy Harris Southern U
Vernus Ragsdale Grambling
Major Hazelton FAMU
I always get a kick out of..."track speed has nothing to do with football speed"...hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!
I could list tons and tons and tons of sprnters/footballers...TONS!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody is talking about trying to make a footballer out of a track guy. Football is loaded down with guys who did both.
Jimmy Hines won the 1968 Olympic 100m, the Dolphins brought him in to see if just maybe....nope he sucked.
Bob Hayes who won the 1964 Olympic 100m was a football player, actually a running back at Florida A&M, who just happened to..ALSO..be the fastest man in the world. A footballer like Jamaal Charles, Sammy Watkins, Chris Johnson who also ran track.

Ringa Dinga Ringa Dinga....school in session.
We always read/hear about how Bob Hayes changed the way pass defense is played because nobody could run with him. Which is true, but....
In the mid 50's there was a cat out of Loyola named Bob Boyd, he was the NCAA 100 champ, a 9.5 guy (Hayes 9.1) at a time when the league still had white cornerbacks, yep...nobody could run with Bob Boyd. He had over 1000 yards as a rookie....hmmm?
See ya learned something.
The All Time NFL/AFL PaleFace 100m
lane
1.Richmond Flowers...Giants
2.Tim Dwight....Falcons
3.Billy Cannon...Oilers
4.John Roderick...Dolphins
5.Lance Alworth..Chargers
6.Don Hutson...Packers
7.Jerry Tarr...Broncos
8.Don Beebe...Bills
9.Bill Groman..Oilers
So what QB was also a 10.2 sprinter?
Broadway Joe Namath
I seriously doubt Namath could break a 5.5 40.
Curtis Conway was a QB while at Hawthorne HS here in Cali. As a QB he won the state 100m and ran a sub 46.00 relay leg on the 4x4 team. Once at USC he became a receiver and ran a 10.2? on the track team. There has never been any athlete who played the QB position at any level faster.
As we know he played for the Bears in the NFL.
One fast QB (lane 4)

I thought you were asking about a 100 time???
Did you really think Joe Namath could even run a 100m?
Yeah...I'm pretty confident that Joe Namath could run a 100m.
No he couldn't. After around 60m he'd be done then he'd more or less jog the rest of the way.
well...yeah...he's like 70 or something now...I meant back in the day
I'm talking about at the height of his physical prowess. The 100m takes....speed endurance....something only trained athletes possess. I;m ...obviously...not talking about a person simply running to a 100m mark. I.m talking about actually running the entire distance all out.
