Let's be objective. He was a really great a player for a long time, but he always tried to be Michael Jordan. Michael in fact admitted a couple years ago during an interview that the only player that could have given him a run for his money one on one in his prime was Kobe because Kobe stole all of his moves. No star NBA player has ever quite matched Michael's compe ive drive but prime Kobe came close.

Notwithstanding, because Kobe's career is now over, we can safely say that he has failed to surpass Michael Jordan in any significant way. Kobe has also failed in the way he bid farewell to the game (as an injured, inefficient, cancer with a bloated contract to boot). In that regard, he reminds us a lot of embarrassing ends such as those of Starbury, Francis and AI. Hopefully when he officially says goodbye to the game in the next couple of months, he will try to salvage some honor, and remind us of the glory days.

If we forget about those fuzzy advanced stats, we can just focus on him being one of the greatest volume shooters of our time.

Put Iverson in his place, he probably doesn't run Daddy off and the Lakers win another couple les, denying Duncan in 03 and 05. For that, I'll forever be grateful to Kirby

He always has the physical skills, but he was always too arrogant to pass to the open man(or better player *cpugh* Shaq) rather than chucking up shots. Westbrook reminds me of him.

spur fans being idiots as usual. I like to remind you that no one really cares what you think. The more you disparage Kobe you bring down Duncan. That's the truth kids.

Kobe. I won't throw any more dirt on his grave. The war has been won. Spurs are the best franchise post-Jordan and Duncan the best player of his era. It's settled in stone now, so there's nothing to gain (for me at least) speaking ill of the figurative dead.

Kobe was a fine player. Dynamic all around scorer, one of the best less than 2 seconds on the clock shot makers I've ever seen. Even though his overall clutch game was mediocre-to-abysmal, he was incredible at getting a shot off from an inbound pass with 1 or 2 seconds left. His footwork was precise as an atomic clock and he was adept at finishing from a variety of angles. Not a very good defender, even in his prime, but neither were comparable players like Allen Iverson, Steve Francis, etc.

Definitely a top 15 player of all-time, and that is nothing to sniff at when you consider how many NBA players there have been over the last 50 years.

Kobe is a top 10 player of all-time, and he's much easier to tolerate in the new-media era of basketball, tbh..

He was intolerable when the NBA was being covered by old-ass, antiquated analysts that don't understand the advancement of basketball(Mike Wilbon, Kornheiser, Bob Ryan, etc), but with the progression of employing knowledgeable analysts in mainstream outlets, the coverage of players has been more unbiased and fair in the mainstream..

His 2015 season has been arguably the worst individual season in NBA history, but the media went a little too far with the hate IMO..it was evident from the moment they hired Byron ing Scott that the Lakers weren't trying to win games this year..

The sad part here is the Lakers franchise keeping Kobe around, not trading him to a contender and messing with the fans hopes they will ever win another NBA le again with Kobe as a player. Even getting a star player in to team with Kobe next year won't turn this mess around, they need to rebuild, with Kobe they are done contending for good. It's all a tease at this point, cash grab, bait to still sell tickets which is why they want to keep Kobe around. They need to start rebuilding soon, that team is a mess, they need to give the fans a reality check. I like that the Celtics traded Pierce, KG and later Rondo, now the fans have that reality check, Lakers should be doing what the Celtics are doing now, full rebuild but that was a quickly assembled team. Kobe has been there since the 90's, they just don't want to blow it up and start a new era in Lakers basketball, it's just teasing the fans now which is sad. So they will keep Kobe and try and make a playoff push next season odds are, but it's pointless he isn't the future face of that franchise anyway. Lakers should be worried about draft picks, rebuilding.

Kobe though is easily in top 10 GOAT players in NBA history!

I actually agree with this to an extent. I think the Kobe hate colors the facts somewhat. He was great for a long time, although his efficiency has dropped to average and now he's done. Advanced stats s forget the intangibles that don't show up in the box scores like leadership, killer instinct etc, but more recently blaming others and being a team cancer.
