As great a QB as Montana was he the bed in the playoffs as well. From 1985 through '87 he failed to generate a TD in ten consecutive quarters of playoff football and was benched for Steve Young at halftime of the '87 divisional game against Minnesota, a game the 49ers lost at home to a double-digit underdog.

    Patriots...Babe Parilli

Then here came Dan Fouts,Terry Bradshaw, Kenny Stabler, Roger Stabach.

It doesn't matter who we talk about, those listed above or the ones who came later. The best QB to ever play the position in my opinion........Joe Montana. An opinion based on watching all of them play many times. The only one I didn't see play...Otto Graham. But....the caliber of defenders back then, well.

Montana just knew how to run an offense, he was like a master dart thrower, key word...precision. While not an actual runner he was mobile. He had it all, the total package. Watching him play was like watching a concert pianist, he had you mesmerized.

Tom Brady the closest thing to Montana I've seen.

Here's where stats just don't work. Not unlike a boxer with a 20-8 record, not knowing he won his first 20 but has lost his last 8. Montana knew receivers and defenses unlike anyone else. He had....finese.

smart move on his part to lose before the superbowl. According to a certain 49ers fan who enjoys pictures of black s, losing before the superbowl is better than losing in the superbowl

Brady's the best I've seen since Montana. Not blessed with great physical tools, but poise, mental toughness, and work ethic is the reason why he's the best of his generation and arguably the best ever. As a Saints fan it leaves me bitter than Brees and Payton haven't had the same amount of success.

    You're moving goal posts again.
You still never answered how. I think you just have no idea what the you are talking about.

How does regular season statistics and WL records matter in this debate
WTF??? YOU were the one that said Montana had a better record, and I showed that is clearly NOT the case, both in the regular season and the playoffs. Brady had both more total wins, as well as better win percentages. They both have 4 championships as well. So how on earth does Montana have a superior record to Brady in any way, shape, or form???

Brady is rightfully viewed as one of the greatest (I had him Top 3 before) but unless he wins a 5th, losing twice to Eli is his undoing
How is losing to Eli his undoing? In what way does that count as a knock against him, when he and Eli have absolutely nothing to do with each other's performance? I could understand knocking Brady if he struggled to score against some crappy defensive team, but those Giants teams had some solid defenses. But knocking him for losing to a QB? Please explain how that is Brady's fault, when in BOTH games he led his team to a late drive and score to take a lead, and the Patriots defense was the unit that allowed Eli to accomplish the final drives with virtually no time left for Brady to accomplish anything? And this doesn't even include the wide open, dropped pass by Welker that almost certainly would have sealed the victory in the second game.

Give me Montana, Marino, Elway, Kelly, Fouts, Theisman, Anderson, Boomer, Cunningham and Moon over those you listed
Cool. I'm happy you prefer them. It still does not prove in any way how Montana is clearly > Brady as you claim. Still awaiting explanation.

Bingo. Everyone has faults, everyone falls short, everyone had bad games in the playoffs. Hate it when people act like Montana and Jordan were these flawless, unstoppable forces that no one could ever beat and was better at every phase of the game than any player who has ever played X100000.

The reason you can't reward 'just getting to the SB' because the Conferences are divided. Who is to say the 2011 Patriots were better than 2011 49ers?

Then who is to say the 15-1 Packers that lost Divisional Round to eventual Champion Giants wasn't the 2nd finest team in 2011?

Slippery slope once you start rewarding the first loser. Harbaugh should have pleaded to the FO bout his record setting NFC le

    Kaepernick > Luck?

No one asked for a reward for getting to the super bowl. Just that to knock Brady for getting to 2 more SBs than Montana did is incredibly stupid. What's the difference between losing there, and losing in a divisional round game? A loss is a loss.

If anything, there is a better argument that those 2 additional appearances is better than not having them at all, since he won 4 already. Fact is, if you got there, that means you generally beat 2, if not 3 really good football teams to get there. Any playoff win you get in football is quite an accomplishment, considering how difficult it is to win in the playoffs.

So to sum it up, 4-2 =/> 4-0

But that's the same reason you can't knock a QB for losing a Super Bowl. Can you really knock John Elway for losing three Super Bowls to teams that were all vastly superior to his teams, for example?

I disagree. I don't have to prove what my opinion is. I don't give a what anyone else thinks about my opinion. I say Montana is better. That's that.
I understand that is your opinion. You are en led to that. But you didn't just state it as "In my opinion, Montana is better than Brady." No, you made a blanket statement, that "Montana is better than Brady". By making such a blanket statement, you are saying anyone who believe "Brady is better than Montana" is dead wrong. So I would love to see the evidence you have, to clearly prove that Montana is better than Brady.

If you don't have evidence, and this is simply a personal preference, then just say so. No problem if that is the case.

Making 4 straight SB's really is a tougher accomplishment than winning one, or even two. The Bills were pretty clearly the second best franchise of the 90's and Jim Kelly deserves alot more respect than he gets.

They were coached by Marty Chokenheimer. Even if they hadn't gagged to Denver, they'd have just choked in the Super Bowl anyway.
I was in SD during the Marty Schottenheimer days. Even the fans pitied Marty for his choking.
