I agree, felt there was no-way New England would survive. I have now cheered and been rewarded by the Patriots twice in the SB (Rams & Seahawks).
Yeah no doubt, they had the perfect game plan and heads slept and they stuck to it and kept them in the game until the end. I thought they had no shot against that mighty greatest show on turf, nobody did. Marshall Faulk was a nightmare back then, on top of that you had Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, very hard to stop.

Damn I wish I bet on that game then, talk about a big line and if you covered! I am not a betting man but a friend of mine raked in 1000 tonight from this game and wins on others he bets on so it makes it tempting. If you bet on that Rams and NE superbowl though it would have been a huge gamble that paid off.
I am willing to bet on spreads that the Colts and Jets where Namath guaranteed a win has to be one of if not the highest? They all thought that would be a blow out for the Colts at the time I read and saw in several tv shows, they were a sure shot to win that game as far as most were concerned. That was another HUGE upset but of course before out time.
Packers vs Broncos in 1997 was actually large considering the AFC hadn't won the SB since the early 1980's and Packers were returning Champs

I knew that had to be the biggest upset in the history being they were +17 and lost by 9, WOW. I remember that Pack and Denver Superbowl as well, nobody thought the Broncos would win that one at the time, had no idea the spread was so high on that one.
Yep. I'm still mad, that's why I am so mad tonight that the Patriots won. Brings me back to 2001-2002 season. Part of it is also the way the game ended tonight. It felt like that game all over again. I'm also a Lynch fan for the last few years and for it to end that way tonight, I just hate it. If they gave the ball to Lynch and he scored and then if Brady came up with a game winning drive after that, I would have given him props, but unfortunately this game ended the worst way possible.
As good as the Patriots played in 2001, I thought that if we get to overtime, the Rams would have won it. Adam Vinatieri was awesome with that kick to win the game with no time left on the clock. He kicked a few pressure packed fields goals in that post season for the Patriots. He was their MVP IMO. Brady was a game manager type back then that had almost everything go his way.
I really did expect to win that superbowl by around 15-30 points. I'm pretty sure Marshall Faulk is still dirty about it as his opinion a few years ago was that spygate played a part in them winning that game.
agree with all of this.
i'm not a brady fan at all, but i always try to give credit where it's due, and he has his great moments. but not once hvae i seen an iconic drive from him in the postseason, where the ball in his hands for the final drive and makes something miraculous happen. it's possible but nothing jumps out at me, not like with Montana or Elway etc....
He made some good throws tonight though, but those INTs were some of his most re ed plays and he's made those types of throws before in the big game (there was an INT against the Panthers that was so laughably bad).
The ending tonight did nothing to alleviate some of those issues I have with him, because it still felt like it was a lot of dinks and dunks with guys like Edelman making big plays. Also, he looked like he was about to his pants at the end until the Seahawks choked it in a way I haven't seen before, so once again, you don't even get that undeniable, iconic moment where you say " , is the GOAT".
This SB ending was worse than 6 imo, it's a gut punch up there with No Country for Old Men
Also felt bad for Warner with the trophy, he looked like he just ate a sandwich giving them the trophy.

he made some good throws, he made some bad throws.
in the end, people will remember the first 3 SB wins for Viniatieri putting it all on the line, and this one will be forever remembered for the Seahawks choking it right on the goaline.
he led b2b TD drives before the seahawks got the ball at the end. wilson's choke will be remembered, but that doesn't take away from brady doing what he had to do
he was subpar in the 2 matchups against the Giants... the first one had a lot of fluke in the loss, and he did gave the go ahead TD drive right before Eli got the ball, but you can't excuse him in that one... they only put up 14 points with that historic offense.

actually watching the highlights, he made a great throw to Gronkowski. I've never doubted Brady's arm.
Still, there was nothing extraordinary or legendary imo. This game will be remembered for that choke. Now that was epic.
yep. everyone is caught up in the hysteria of the playcall (andat the conspiracy theories tbh) but that's on Wilson more than anybody. even on a bad playcall, u can throw it away
Holding it against Brady for dinking and dunking it against a team that spams cover 3 formations and leaves the middle of the field open makes no sense. Seattle made no effort to stop short routes and stayed in its zone the whole game, so Brady took what they gave to him. I'm not sure why Brady would throw a deep ball right in the teeth of Seattle's coverage just for a "signature playoff moment".
It was actually pretty re ed on Seattle's part to not jam up the middle of the field the way the Giants/Ravens historically have against New England.
Don't know if it's already posted, but Malcolm Butler was a last-second subs ution on the GW INT... Crazy.

For real.....the fact that Brady recognized it all game and kept putting the ball to the open guy is what makes him so great....all this with pretty negligible impact from his run game too....
If the defense forced them into a 3 and out after Brady scored, then Brady's drive would be everything that's remembered.
It's nice that you're impartial and hold NE's defense against Brady though.
(tbh, that happens all the time, and it's kinda dumb. If Lynch gets a TD, Brady is a loser, and his 2 ints are why. But Butler catches it, and now it's about Brady making 2 drives for TDs in the 4th. Sports are dumb.)
Yards after catch was a big killer IMO. There were several plays where a 3-5 yard route turned into more when it typically does not. And quite a bit of that occurred on Simon's watch, the young guy just couldn't catch a break. The N.E wide outs did a of a job, particularly Julian. Of course leaving Wright on an island on that TD with no help over the top was downright disrespectful. But all in all, I can't complain. We were up ten in the second half, and had an opportunity to win the game within a few feet of a trophy. It was there for the taking, and the ball was dropped.
