    4k is a bit more demanding, but overall it's just double the resolution of 1080p. 1080p @ 120fps is pretty damn demanding for AAA games like Metro Last Light and Crysis 3.
    Broski..

    1080p = 2,073,600 pixels

    2160p = 8,294,400 pixels

    4k is 4x the res, it's a ton more demanding. 1440p is almost double a 1080p monitor on the other hand.

    Yeah, but the price point is interesting. It was more of a comment than a recommendation, tbh...
    Yeah, 450.00 for a Samsung 4k monitor is extremely attractive..it does run at 60hz over Displayport too..I just don't see a 4k purchase at this point as a smart long term decision.

    The only thing holding me back on a 4k is the 60hz limitation, the horsepower needed to run on ultra, and negligible pixel density at 28" a foot and a half away from my face on my desk..

    I think I'll adopt 4K when I buy a new living room TV.

    Gonna upgrade to a 980 here in a few weeks, with my 680 to be used as a dedicated PhysX card.. I'm also gonna be buying a new monitor to take advantage of the increase in horsepower..I'm currently thinking about this one: (I went with the TS vid as I know how much ElNono likes his cutesy facial hair and makeup)

    I am looking for a monitor preferably with G-Sync, it eliminates the stuttering and chugging you get with V-Sync.. anybody have an opinion on monitors?
    You're nuts if you buy a 980 before the R9 380x comes out. As soon as AMD takes the performance crown Nvidia will be forced to respond with GM200 (e.g. an 2) and then maybe a $700 cut down version of GM200 for people who can't drop $1400 on a ing video card. I mean your 680 is still a pretty nice card, so it would make sense to wait for Big Maxwell instead of dropping $600 for what will be upper midrange Maxwell.

    But seriously though, EVGA's "Step Up" program, ya dig? And yeah, that 700 watered down an 2 will probably be the 980Ti, which will outperform the 1400.00 dollar one..but I heard that is rumored to be released in 2016..

    You only got 90 days though, plus the Gigabyte 980's overclock better. You thinking of doing 980 SLI with that monitor?

    Once that 970 VRAM hit I was tempted to "Step Up" to a 980, but I'll just sell this er next year when I actually start needing 4GB and buy either R9 380x or the cut down GM200. Or if I don't need more than 3.5GB I'll sell it in two years.

    I'll never buy from anyone other than EVGA on an Nvidia card..their customer service is awesome..and you should definitely upgrade to a 980, I read on another forum that a lot of the manufacturers are honoring customer requests for free upgrades.

    You ever had to do an RMA with them? I heard they do cross-shipping.

    Ah, that's true. I knew 1440p was twice 1080p. Brain farted for a minute.

    Yeah, just a couple months ago I had to send back my 680..I burned that mother er up one day cause for whatever reason the fan profile didn't kick in on a +130 mhz overclock.

    They do cross ship, they refund the cost of the GPU as soon as they get the RMA one.

    FWIW, supposedly both the GTX 970 and GTX 980 can drive UHD 4K@60Hz... on DisplayPort and HDMI 2.0.

    Yeah, at a compromise for settings (on newer les at least). I don't want to turn more than AA down with tech that expensive..shouldn't have to.

    Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on it for my next TV upgrade. I read Dish is coming up with a 4K Joey, which should work just fine with my Hopper. I'm just not sure what 4K programming they have available yet.

    This is about all that's available right now in 4K..I'm not liking the prices of rental and Blu-Ray.

    So are any of the other Far Cry's as good as Far Cry 4? That game is fun as , but being a Ubisoft game it can be a micro-stuttering mother er.

    Far Cry 3 is good. People hate on Far Cry 2, but at the time that game was the . The fire mechanics were next level .

    Does all this photo-realistic rendering and high-fidelity physics simulation (that necessitates all this computing power) make the games any better? Just curious.

    It certainly can add immersion to the game.

    Consider the differences here:

    vs.

    So yes, I'm willing to say graphics can make a game more fun. They don't NECESSITATE the game being more fun or better, but being able to explore worlds that are massive and feel alive is pretty amazing.

    I think aesthetics matter. They're not the end-all, be-all. They can't turn a game into a good game, but it can certainly turn a good game into a great game.

    That said, I think the Occulus VR-type of thing is going to be the big, big leap once they get all the kinks ironed out.

    I'm buying it from day one when the CV goes on sale. It'll be the first thing I've preordered in a long, long time.

    I mean, if graphics don't mean anything, why aren't we all playing on Ps2s? Or SNES?
