That might be a little overoptimistic, given they're 3 GB Houston in the loss column.

We're now 1.5 games back from the 4th seed...can't complain given all the we've been through. Just gotta take care of business from here on out. I think our goal should be the 3rd seed.

True. Like you said, the better record will get HCA, so it doesn't matter much.
Anyways, Here are the 3rd-6th seed teams' upcoming games before the break:
Rockets play: Blazers, @ Suns, @Clippers (b2b)
Mavs play: Clippers, Jazz
Blazers play: @ Rockets (b2b), Lakers
Clippers play: @Thunder, @Mavs, Rockets
If (extra emphasis on this) we take care of business and win these last 3 games before the break, we should be in great position going into the break. As you can see, a lot of the teams ahead of us will be playing each other, so we have to pick up ground somewhere.
I hope we come out strong tomorrow and beat Toronto. There's still plenty of season left, but getting these 3 wins before the break could be huge. Especially with a tough stretch coming up after the break.
If this is the case, which it should be, I think the spurs should try and get the "5" seed and take homecourt vs the Blazers and take down golden state (who we own head to head) and wait for the Dallas, Houston, LA Clippers, Memphis bloodbath to take place and get whoever comes out of that. That would be a great scenario for us. We have to beat Golden State at some point so we should take them out earlier when it will be a bit easier.
We gotta stop following these up with ty losses of our own. Ugh...
