I remember Bird and his mates trying to first scare, then cajole, then beg Magic out of it Spring turned to Summer, 1985.
Uh, uh.
Larry Bird walked onto the court, about to coach at practice, and was told that one of his players was missing.
Back at the hotel, still in bed, was Michael Jordan.
It was the eve of the NBA All-Star Game in 1998, the last time Madison Square Garden hosted the star-studded event, and Jordan had the flu.
Bird, the former Boston Celtics superstar then in his first season coaching the Indiana Pacers, was coach of the Eastern Conference All-Stars. That meant, for just one day, he would coach Jordan, the Chicago Bulls superstar -- who was listed as questionable for the game.
When Bird boarded the team bus on the morning of the game, Jordan, ill as he was, was on it. But shortly after tip-off, Jordan got the remedy he needed. It was 19-year-old Los Angeles Lakers phenom Kobe Bryant, who was being hailed as the next Jordan.

They should go back to wearing home and away jerseys imo.. although i guess as long as people keep buying those ty all star jerseys we'll keep seeing them.

This was a defensive beast in his prime. Amazing to see how embarrassing his defensive skills are this last 3 seasons
I agree man, damn those jerseys are awful nowadays. I like the ones here, home and away was MUCH better.
seems like every mike story starts out as "so he woke up with the flu..."
yes he was but he also even at his best was sometimesy on defense. He just took a lot more personal in his younger days. Always trying to prove something. Helped make him great but pissed off a lot of people that way ...
LOL. he the GOAT though but some of his legend is exaggerated.
Outside of the all-star game...
I wish teams would stick to home jerseys at home overall. Teams with alternate home jerseys should not force the other team to wear their home uni.
Just my 2 cents
Agreed on that front as well. I remember the playoffs either last year or the year before the Spurs always had on that grey instead of their classic white jerseys, didn't like those nearly as much at all. Special occasions I can see it, but overall come on you don't need them on all the time.No doubt about it.
