    what about the players?

Timmy should be close to 1000 games? I think ?

But no media seems to report that so-and-so won 1000 games or something like that.

There was a little discussion yesterday:

    http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/show...10#post7824910

Guess if you substract the 96/97 season wins and all wins in which Duncan DNP, he has ways to go to get to 1000...

    Karl Malone has 952

    Canīt find any ranking.
But not a lot of players played as many games as Duncan (over 1300) and had nearly as good of a winning percentage (just under .700)

Funny find: 2011, active players with best career winning percentage:
    1. Manu
    2. Tony
    3. Timmy

So Timmy needs minimum two more seasons to catch him...

He could get to 1000 with ~50 wins season this year and next year!

Yes. I listed all games won in which he participated (regular season that is), and the count was 929.

I see. So I guess Kareem should be the player with most win in his career? Cause he played 20 seasons.

You can do it for other players by going to their basketball-reference profile,
hit the "finders" button, then "game finder",
set the bullet for "game result" to "win",
    and "get results"...

Then you get a list of all the games which match the criteria ("win") for the certain player.

    1 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* C 1970 1989 1074
    2 Robert Parish* C 1977 1997 1014
    3 John Stockton* G 1985 2003 953
    4 Karl Malone* F 1986 2004 952
    5 Tim Duncan F 1998 2015 929

So, TD needs to get 25 more to get to #3 (possible this season),
another 60 next season to get tied to #2
60 again in 2017/18 to tie Kareem...

lol no wonder no media ever report that players won 1000 games....because only Kareem and Parish had done so.

I used the export function to look at per year data:
(most seasons played BTW KG with 20, Kareem 20, Parish 21 aaaand leader with 23: Kevin Willis)

Kareem still atop with 53,7 wins per season played
    2nd Michael Cooper with 52,9
Followed by McHale and Worthy 51,8
Dennis Johnson and TD with 51,6

Since Timmy has the ongoing season in this calculation he can be considered 3rd (needs 5 more wins)
If he gets to 954 (25 more), he would be 2nd in this ranking with 53 wins per season played...

Does Pop get credited with games he didn't coach?

    Yeah think so.

The couple wins that Bud and Messina got was credited to Pop.

Which is odd. If Tim doesn't play a game, he doesn't get credited for it.

I think its because Head Coach rarely misses games. Even if they miss, it is probably due to illness which maybe at most the coach will be back within 2 games.

While players of course will have risk of injury which could leads to being out indefinitely. So it is not fair to count win for the players if they missed the game.

It's because he's still the head coach, whether or not he's coaching today.

I guess the thinking behind it is that the team still uses the coach's system when he isn't around.

I read somewhere that Pop is the only third salary between the NBA coaches at six mil. Ahead of him are Van Gundy and... Doc Rivers with 10 millions! Clippers throwing Money through the window (s).

This doesn't account for the fact that Duncan's career included TWO shortened seasons... the metric should be normalized to account for those seasons...

(and reference my sig - which only goes through the end of last season)...
