    Synopsis:

After one of the ugliest halves in recent memory (seriously, don't watch it), the Spurs put together a couple of bursts to drop the Pistons, 104-87. It wasn't necessarily a close game, but by the same token there was never really a feeling of being in control until midway through the 4th, or later. The Pistons do have quite a bit of talent, but most of their players are only good at one end of the floor, and the system they're running is atrocious at times. With a couple of good drafts, the Pistons could put together a decent young core and contend -- at least, out East.

    ascending: Danny Green

Well, it was about time. After some truly dismal shooting performance, Green exploded against Detroit. Going 7-13 from the field including 5 treys on 10 attempts from downtown, Green proved tonight that sometimes, it's the the long ball that gives the sternest goodnight. To add onto it, Danny blew a couple of defensive assignments but made up for it with overall fantastic defense, continually harrying the Pistons backcourt AND frontcourt, including a nice block on a Detroit big. Overall it was the Green we've come to expect, and maybe even a little more. Phenomenal performance, and the game ball, to Danny Green.

    falling: Cory Joseph

Not sure what happened to our backup point guard, but recently he has found his way directly into 's doghouse. Cory wasn't great tonight in his time on the court, and seemed to force a lot of the action despite making a few nice plays. Cory didn't score in 9:22 of play tonight and picked up a couple of fouls. Not time to panic yet, but if you enjoy Joseph's game, you probably won't be seeing much of it anytime soon. I have come to expect more from Cojo, but as we all know, expectation is the root of all heartache. With Mills firing away, it's uncertain if Joseph will have a chance to see meaningful minutes anytime soon.

    ascending: Tony Parker

Bit by bit, game by game, Parker is starting to round into form. He got blown up on a couple of defensive assignments tonight, but overall it was a pretty solid performance. 6-10 shooting and some good ball movement both on and off the ball highlighted a game where Parker was able to control much of the tempo. His passing is still a bit errant, but Parker has seemed more sure of his probing drives into the lane over the past week or so, and did a pretty good job of creating space with his body to allow for some easy layups in the lane tonight.

    falling: Boris Diaw

I shudder to think of the amount of calories he will consume over the All-Star Break, but if he keeps putting up incredibly quiet lines like the one we saw tonight, he's going to find out that the past is prologue, especially to a coach like Pop. He might not deserve a ton of disparagement from this game, but the bottom line is that Bobo hasn't looked like himself at all lately. Boris was not aggressive at all tonight, and his only high mark was moving the ball well.

    ascending: The Aussies!

Patty Mills and Aron Baynes were very solid tonight. Baynes logged 24 minutes of play, and despite being quiet on the boards with just 4 rebounds, he was very effective inside and moving off the ball. Baynes is learning to be aggressive and dunk with some at ude when the opportunity presents itself, and tonight he had a couple of mean jams. Mills was also decent in 15 minutes of play, but seemed to disappear on the court. He did add a couple of threes which seemed to upset Detroit's rhythm on defense.

    ascending: Marco Belinelli

Ferrari is back. The stats might not show it, but he had a couple of bright spots tonight and added another respectable game to his season after returning from injury. Perhaps more encouraging was his effort on defense, which gave his man fits at times. When Beli is on, it is a catalyst for this team and something to look forward to more of this season.

    Looking ahead:

We are decidedly not en fuego, but there are a few sparks, and perhaps a few more embers that hint at the fire that could burn if and when this team finds it's rhythm. If Houston loses tonight to the Clips, the Spurs will suddenly find themselves a mere TWO games out of the 3rd seed in the Conference, which would be incredible given the number of injuries they've battled through, and how tired legs likely are after 3 straight deep playoff runs. That we aren't peaking yet is an understatement -- the Spurs haven't even begun to climb the main summit of potential that's possible with this team. They might not even be in the base camp yet. Let's hope the Spurs are ready to let slip the dogs of war after the All-Star Break.

Master Splitter? He looked aggressive on a few rebounds tonight. His D is still suspect. Still can't finish to save his life though

    What a gy write-up theme.
So you're saying you liked it? Thanks, breh.

I mean, that's the conclusion you're forcing me to come to. I can't fathom that any straight man on the planet would be ing about the theme of a game review when his "favorite team" just won by almost 20 points on the road.

Were the paragraphs not color-coded enough for you? Should the down arrow have been a delicate shade of mauve? Help me out here. I'm guessing you were hoping for professional headshots of each player before and after every segment.

You should comment some more on how the theme doesn't suit your elevated tastes. That's the manliest thing that you could possibly say when your "favorite team" just won 2 big games.

The Salt Squad's stock is dropping. I've never seen a group of fans so furious about a solid win

Nice writeup, would be curious to know your thoughts on Timmy, Manu and Kawhi.
Honestly I'm at work, so I was a little pressed for time.

Kawhi had a pretty terrible game on offense, but solid on D as per usual. Very disruptive. But forcing the issue way too much. I actually don't mind him being that aggressive, it just didn't pan out for him tonight.

Duncan looked good on D and his offense gradually improved from to meh. He needs to stop shooting the 18 footer when we have 10+ left on the shot clock. He can get that shot anytime he wants it.

Manu was decent. Slightly sub-par game for him but still effective. Ball movement and decision making were pretty good. He didn't have any boneheaded Manu plays that made me shake my head in wonderment.

He was huge when he first came into the game. Brought more energy than I've seen from him in a while, but it didn't last, and Baynes was going HARD to the rack tonight.
