He's right. We had just come off our back2back and was ready to retool for another run that would have pushed Kobe past Jordan in ring counts. Everyone knew it and everyone was crying about it. I called foul play first.

    Commissioner,
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).
I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
    Please advise…
    Dan G.

This is a new low for Kirby. You'd think a commissioner who hated the Lakers wouldn't rig so many games for them or talk about how he wanted a Lakers vs. Lakers Finals.

The only thing that was rigged was the gift that you got in Paul... and magically you've turned him into to . The Clippas are worse than low income ghetto s. You may as well move out the community when you see em coming.

Kobe needs to shut the up. He's not even playing right now.

Why is he going on an interview tour to keep his name in the press? He's completely irrelevant to the current NBA season.

Stop yucking it up with Ahmad Rashad and and GQ magazine and the like and go rehab your shoulder, you little .

Kobe and CP3 would have been a nightmare, they'd have been fighting worse than Kobe and Shaq. Yeah, they'd probably be somewhere in the playoffs, but I don't think they'd have made much noise.

The Cubes did this, and now I read somewhere last week that he now wants to lift the cap.

    I'll just bet he does.

Bad for the NBA probably. Lakers in the hunt is always best for biz. Ya just got to love every non-Laker fan celebrating the crap out of a regular season 3-game losing streak during that run lol

This thread is like pulling the scab off old wounds with some gasoline soaked grip pliers. SMDH

That's why I laughed at you farmers calling Mitch "cupcake". It's cool, they just delayed the inevitable: LA passing Boston in rang totals. They succeeded on keeping Kobe behind MJ though. Small victory, I guess.

Kobe has become not only a tired old bag, but a senile old in his advancing age.

CP3 and Kobe wouldn't work. The Lakers would be spending $20 million on a point guard to bring the ball up and pass to Kobe. Bean's on record saying he doesn't like chumps, that he'll walk over you but the reality is this is exactly why the Kobe-Gasol tandem worked. Luckily for the Lakers, Pau became a (Thanks to Kobe) and found a pair in 2009 and 2010.

Choke, Kirby, and Dwight would have been a disaster, Manuel. Two ballhogs ,three chokers and three oversized egos.

he is right about the lockout. It was the right thing to do also, the league had become a joke, i mean an ignorant team winning it all just because they have boatloads of money more than anyone and a position of absolute power just isn't right. He is wrong about thinking the cp trade would have changed much for him though.

Still at people who think the Hornets should have taken the contracts of Scola and Odom when they were trying to sell the team.

Thank goodness that trade never happened. Props to Stern for doing his job and blocking that trade.
