Gregg Popovich said there was zero point four percent chance the Spurs make a deal. That doesn't mean they're not stealthily poking around. (https://twitter.com/JeffZillgitt/sta...553311232?s=17)

Spurs history has been riddled with missed opportunities borne from excruciating cir stances:

    04: Derek Fisher 0.4
    06: Ginobili foul on Dirk
08: Plane got stuck in New Orleans, leading players to be sleep deprived in Game 1 of WCF, leading to epic collapse; Manu injury in WCF; Crawford not calling the foul on Barry in Game 5
11: Manu broken arm leading to absence in Game 1 and eventual series loss against Memphis
12: Ibaka and Perkins going unconscious from the perimeter in Game 5 of WCF; horrid officiating in Game 6
    13: 6

The only real missed opportunities there are '06 and '13. Spurs should have won those years but Tony's poor play in the critical series hurt them(Mavs and Heat respectively).

2004 - I don't think the team was good enough to beat the Pistons. Manu wasn't ready to turn the corner yet so our only scoring options were Duncan and Parker. Tony choked hard against a mediocre Laker team. He would have had a disastrous performance if he had to play the Pistons in the Finals. We all saw what Chauncey did to a better version of '04 Parker in the Finals a year later. That Spur team was too one-dimensional on offense to make a serious championship run.

2008 - It was Boston's year. By far the best team in the league with a stacked roster. Lakers and Celtics both made critical moves that established them as the two best teams in the league while the Spurs front office was too complacent in the offseason holding onto an aging roster that was washed up. Big three were still good but the role players were old as . I doubt we would have been able to win three straight series without homecourt...not with THAT roster.

2011 - Spurs were a little too gimmicky that year. 2nd best offense in the league - 11th ranked defense. They weren't going to win a le with Dejuan Blair and Matt Bonner playing next to Duncan and guys like Jefferson and Neal getting major playing time. The defense just wasn't there.
