Cuban
ESPN's Tim McMahon reported that there's not much of a chance that Rondo -- an unrestricted free agent this coming summer -- will remain a Maverick long-term:The root of the Rondo-Carlisle crisis is a simmering disagreement about whether the Mavs were best off with the genius former Coach of the Year or brilliant four-time All-Star point guard calling the majority of the plays. This has deteriorated rather quickly. Dallas acquired Rondo in December, and owner Mark Cuban said publicly that the plan wasn't to make him a rental. The starting five of Rondo, Monta Ellis, Chandler Parsons, Nowitzki and Chandler were supposed to keep the Mavs contenders for the next few seasons. They gave up a first-round pick, a second-round pick and three role players for him.
Rondo, a nine-year veteran with one of the highest basketball IQs in the league, believes that's a big part of his job as a point guard. Carlisle, one of the NBA's best offensive minds, doesn't want to hand the keys of his sports car over to a guy he just met.
It's similar to the friction between Carlisle and future Hall of Fame point guard Jason Kidd during their first season together, except they never had "SportsCenter"-leading shouting matches. Carlisle ceded control to Kidd in midseason, and that duo played prominent roles in the Mavs' le run a few years later.
Could history repeat itself? Don't hold your breath. The reality is Rondo's run with the Mavs is extremely unlikely to extend past this season.

Not even a question you'd have to let the guy walk this summer. No big deal, only gave up Wright who was expiring anyway
And Dallas should be glad for it. Rondo is pretty antiquated. Still better than Tony, though.
And picks.
I don't think he is better than Tony overall but right now anyone is sadly. I agree Dallas should be glad as well, let that bum walk, he is overrated anyways. He is also a bad at ude and a cancer on any team he is on from what I gathered. He says he did not play D at all in Boston and quit basically later on, not a guy I want on my team.Yep, that was a stupid trade. Boston looking alot better without him honestly as bad as they were.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out Rondo. Harris is our best point guard.
Oh well, at least the Spurs aren't the only ones ed in their point guard situation right now with Rondo and Rose.
We have Lin and a rookie (who i like but still a rooK) stop in'
well we have ty Parker and Jeremy Linobili running our point tbh.
Tim McMahon is a Mavs troll reporter who has zero inside information. He's the "blogger" Cuban kicked out of the locker room that one time, do you really think he has any actual reliable sources?
BTW I hope he's right. Whatever the market is for Rondo, it's too expensive.
For actual insight on the Mavs, the only real sources are Marc Stein and, shockingly, Mike Fisher.
They both are good. I think Tim was just making a informed opinion doubt Cubes of all people will readily admit he made a mistake ...
look how long it took to admit he was wrong to chase Dwight/D-will and break up the le team ...
I think Tim was just butthurt about Carlisle shutting him down at the post game press conference.
If the Lakers are to going to max out Rondo, then Dallas should pass. I'm not holding my breath, but hopefully this Rondo experiment will show enough promise before the end of the season and they can resign him at a reasonable price. PG position is still a hole despite Rondo acquisition. It didn't look good when they first brought back Kidd.
There's a poster over at CF who works for a sports firm. He says Rondo is leaving, and Lakers won't offer max. I Have a couple of links to verify this guy's posts if you want.
Although I agree that it doesn't look likely, McMahon has absolutely no proof.
He is simply bitter at Carlisle for twice in the past month or so making McMahon look like a total got in post-game interviews where McMahon was clearly trying to over-blow situations and get a rise out of Rick.
It's inevitable. Kobe has been courting Rondo for 2 summers now and the Lakers are still not a major player in any of the marquee players list. Sadly, Buss will push Mitch to sign any significant talent next year and by significant, I mean not 1 year rentals. So it's looking more like Rondo will be our biggest catch next year

Lakers wont pay him the max

he is not worth the max. Let's be real here. even in his prime he was never worth it. Now he has had a serious injury, a broken jumper and has proven difficult to get along with in Boston and Dallas so far. Unless he could be had for $10 million or less neither team should sign him. (i only say $10 mill because mediocre fringe all-stars seem to make that much nowadays)
tim Mac is arrogant and a prick so I dont blame RC for clowning him. But if Westbrook, rose , Paul etc did the same thing and got suspended for it there would be questions RC knows this ...
McMahon
Don't care right now about Rondo in the summer though.
It's all relative. He might not get max dollars, but offering Rondo an eight figure salary on multi year deal is still an awful move for a team who's building.
