The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
getting into some of the old tunes at work today...Meddle is musical ecstasy
The Piper at the Gates of Dawn
The Delicate Sound of Thunder is my favorite live rock album.
Asking favorite Pink Floyd LP is insane. That is like saying which of your twin daughters you love more.
To pick any LP that doesn't have the song Have a cigar would show your not a true Pink Floyd lover.
Also how can you dismiss the dark side of the Moon LP if you love Animals? How can you dismiss The Divisions Bell the LP that confirmed the Waters and Gilmour separation with lyrics like Keep talking and guitar riffs that taunt Waters as a cry baby?
Go right ahead and try and say one LP is better than the other but I know you will want to edit your choices someday if not now then later
Meddle is a great album but a little unrefined imo. San Tropez is out of place on that album and Pillow of Winds/Fearless are just okay songs imo. Echoes is what takes the entire album up (because it's like half of it). That is probably my favorite or second favorite song by them.
But by far my favorite album is Wish You Were Here. Everything about it is perfect and a very thoughtful musical translation of the band's feelings for their former frontman. Also has a lot of personal sentimentality tbh but it has everything you want from Floyd -- crazy psychedelic rock, beautiful piano work, trippy effects, rocking solos, great singing, and long instances of pure instrumental glory.
Animals is also a very good album but I ding it because I dislike the opening/ending tracks, mostly because I am not as much of a Waters fan and he kinda has a ty voice
spot on imho fwiw
dark side of the moon. i don't care for the others though most of my favorite floyd songs aren't on the album.
I've come back around to Dark Side of the Moon. It was my intro, then I had about 4-5 other favorites, but recently rediscovered DSOTM. Just perfect front to back.
Dark Side is always a safe choice because it doesn't have any 12+ minute long songs that take up large potions of the album and has a lot of memorable, great songs and obvious changes in mood/style. More diverse but not as intense, imo
Endless River. Captures them at their best. Chilling at times...just classic. Permanently in my rotation.
Leetonidas put it best--no need to really vary from what he said. Catching Roger Waters a handful of years back @ Coac a was a treat.
Still haven't gotten around to listening it tbh. What Floyd era would you compare it to musically? Pre-Gilmour? Post-Syd? Post-Waters?
It was a joke. I really didn't like it much. I did put it on a couple of time while I fell asleep. I like PF but can't say I was a huge fan. My favorite is probably Final Cut. But I also like Momentary Lapse of reason with all Gilmore.
As Leet said, dark side is a safe choice... I like animals though.
Endless River is decent background music, but it's basically an instrumental passage from Division Bell stretched to over 40 minutes.
That's kinda disappointing.
Momentary Lapse is solid. Learning to Fly is one of my favorite songs and really exemplifies Gilmour's ability to write power lyrics
It's not awful but just nothing particularly remarkable that makes me want to listen again. I read a lot of negative reviews but wanted to like it but they mostly were right. I was really only aware of PF when The Wall came out and went back a few albums and listened to Animals and DS but never checked out the older stuff although I always meant to.
The one where he plays "Last Date." I love that song.
Echoes on Live at Pompeii = sublime on psychadelics
The wall for me
No pink floyd favorite song list should go without
comfortably numb
Also some have said this is David's best solo
And you can't forget the motivation behind this song as David calls out Roger
I can't pick just one LP In a way I envy those who can but I know I'm not alone.
