Kawhi is a beast and every Spurs fan knows it. So this thread really isn't necessary. Becoming the 2nd best player on the Spurs speaks for itself.
Guys I didn't think I had to do this because there have been many excellent kawhi threads. But there are some people who feel that celebrating Tony's return from injury (which due to age isn't a sure thing) is an attack on Leonard.
So, here you go. A thread to say that kawhi has become the spurs second best player, key perimeter disruptor, all around great team mate, and generally cool guy.

He turned down somebody's daughter... that's just plain mean, IMO
Leonard is 2nd in steals per game and is only .05 steals per game behind Curry. Strong possibility that Leonard ends the season #1 in steals per game.

Steals per 36 minutes
Steph Curry 2.3
Kawhi Leonard 2.4
Some...who?? We're gonna play Who Said What.
Three weeks ago TGY, hater, Hoops, Chump, PingPong, daslicer, DMC, Kool Bob Love, Capt Bringdown, ducks, N0 LyF3 ScRuB, tholdren were saying that Kawhi is just a role player
But who said in the last weeks...
1-DMCHe's not a great player and never will be
2-daslicer
3-Hoops
1-N0 LyF3 ScRuBKawhi is a good 3rd option... maybe 4th. Is not a max player. He got fame only cause lebronjames is the king of choking
2-tholdren
3-Chump
(similar to the old Harrison Barnes>Kawhi thing)Rather Snell than him
1-Hoops
2-TYG
3-PingPong
What is your idea of "great player"?
OP is still a got despite his poor attempt to pretend that he doesn't loathe Kawhi.
It's great to see him grow as the 2nd best player on the team so fast! I love this guy so much!! Glad he's on our team! Defensive monster!!!
leads PPG and the best defensive player..
Oh but Tony ..
big 3 mainstream fans..![]()
When people say that Leonard is the Spurs second best player, they aren't referring to Tony. They're referring to Tim.
Either way, glad to see things never change. You have the Spurs actually playing their best ball of the season, players looking back in form, and all you wanna do is squabble about the same stupid . There's plenty of interesting stuff to talk about now, especially with playoffs around the corner. This little battle has been cute but as the playoff picture becomes clearer I'd like to see something with substance. Would be really interested in doing a player pairing analysis but I have no idea how timvp did the charts. Does bkref have a feature that makes it easier?
This is a kawhi thread. I have another one for Parker. I'll explain it again. When kawhi was hurt he came back pretty quick. With Parker, it took far longer to heal and was not a sure thing. Thus Parker playing well is huge relief, while kawhi was more a sure thing.
If I truly thought kawhi wouldn't be back I'd be freaking out. Spurs without kawhi are an old team with a gimmick offense. With kawhi and splitter we have championship defense.
So boo to apo for trying to make this a Parker thread.
I'm not a hater of Kawhi I actually hope he does well and I still stand by my words that he's not a great player. I hope Kawhi continues to play well so I can eat some crow because believe it or not I'm a spur fan and not a player fan. Kawhi playing good equals spurs wins.
Links to my quotes, please.
Only problem is that he's already pretty great. I don't know how you could say otherwise. He just transforms the defense and gives the offense an additional weapon.
If you mean to say kawhi won't be an offensive great, you'd be a pessimist, but maybe he has topped out and will never get better.
If you meant that kawhi will not be an offense first option, that's true; kawhi can't dribble like a guard and his post work is still clunky...he needs a good point guard.
If you think he's the true Jordon heir or even a guaranteed all star, you are delusional.
But, the real thing is regardless of your opinions on kawhi, Parker should still be respected as an all time great spurs player.
When Leonard carries San Antonio to wins and controls the game in crunch time, then he won't be a role player...if he does that consistently he would be a max player.
It's no coincidence that spurs have had great play from PG spot and kl.
And I'm with the other guy. If spurs win I'm cool. But I wouldn't max kl.... yet
This is pretty much what i'am implying when I say he's not a great player.

He's the first person to bring up TP in this thread
Why does every Kawhi thread turn into a Parker thread

"can't dribble like a guard"
But who many elite SF in the league are really good ballhandlers like a top guard? Two, maybe three?
"his post work is still clunky..."
Disagree, this is the first season he gets two or three plays in the post per game, 23 years old, he still has room to improve...Leonard'll maximize his strengths as post up player.
Shaq never had the entire post arsenal of Hakeem or Tim, but he was a beast and effective scorer.
Obviously Kawhi isn't the unique, most talented player of his generation like Jordan, Lebron, Durant, but he's already a great player.
