This is the stand of the Catholic Church and has been since the late 1950s. Catholics believe that the interjection of the soul is what makes humans special, officially. And science has nothing to say about souls, Which of course is true.
Catholics also give the go ahead for members who don't believe in evolution of man, so the official stance is basically acceptance.

I no more buy the Bible than I do we were once a fish. It's pretty obvious something other than...BIG BANG..is responsible all this. Far too many things having to work in perfect harmony to pull it off. That doesn't come from chaos.
The only real question is just what/who was it that designed all this? That we don't know so we have tried to explain it with bull stories. You could read Homer's The Illiad and think that actually happened, you could think Greek/Roman/Germanic/Egyptian etc. mythology is factual.
