It's relatively cheap to live in Houston and the economy was doing well in Houston in 2014 (and still is but the O&G industry is getting hit now).

yep, really, "places" reasonably close to work, and close to where people want to live.

specifically where are these 38K homes in Houston going to be built?

Or, perhaps it's easier to get permits in Texas?

    Why does Texas suck?
    Houston sucks.

Traffic, weather, make it an absolute hole.
But of course I'm one of those people that appreciates San Antonio.

The new Green Way riding and walking paths are really nice.

Yeah, you'd have to pay me a lot of money to move to Houston. A lot.

I made that mistake out of college. Got offered starting salary equivalent to 70K today @ 21 years old. Couldn't resist it. First winter went almost three months without seeing the sun. Rained almost every day. I freaking hated it.

The humidity in Houston sucks but isn't that bad. Houston has better food (unless Mexican food is literally the only thing you eat), better art/museum/culture scene, better bars and better night life. If you are young, it's a much better place to be. I love and I mean love San Antonio. It's a great place to grow up but there are so many better places to live in if you're a young adult.

Most of the new housing in the area will be multi-family, I would warrant.

Nat gas boom, I would guess. Houston is one of the prime beneficiaries of that. Doubt 2015 will look that way.

Source link? (would like to read a bit more)

just because there's a permit doesn't mean there's a house, and no zoning makes that more possible.

how can you get a building permit for a lot if it's not zoned residential/buildable?

there IS NO zoning in houston. you can build all what you want where you want. including investing in property for future markets. doesn't mean you've built a new home there.
