That's incredibly overblown. Diaw getting more minutes and hitting jumpers is what really changed the series and took Ibaka and the thunder out of rhythm. In addition, never forget the other disastrous playoff years of Bonner missing open shot after open shot. that sandwich eating piece of .
I honestly don't get the hate on him. He is what he is, limitations and all. It's not like he's gary ing neal out there chucking his little heart out there. It's not his fault pop thought he was the heir apparent to Robert Horry. He seems like a genuinely likable dude.
No. I actually don't get why people give him a free pass and consider him some kind of loveable loser. The day he retires, I will consider it another won le.
If anyone is getting a free pass it's Pop. He is incredible stubborn. He forced matt into being a full rotation big when everyone else could see he was nothing more than a 3pt specialist to be used in special situations. But he stubbornly stuck with him over Tiago. He also did the same with Gary Neal and Money Mason, neither was suited to play back up PG but he forced it onto them.
He can be a nice guy while not wearing a Spurs jersey, tbh... I have no problem with that.
And Pop gets a free pass. Seems a little unfair considering he was the one who put Matt in a situation he was doomed to fail.
I don't hate him and the last couple of years he has been relatively ok in the role he deserves, 11th/12th man, but this season - gross. Get him off the court.
Exaclty he was never ever meant to be a regualr rotation big but Pop forced it trying to fill the void left by Horry.

it's hard to, tbh. He's often incompetent and whenever he misses a three for the limited court time he gets sometimes it pisses me off because I'm like THAT'S THE ONLY REASON YOU'RE EVEN THERE YOU GINGER MOTHER ER
but he always seems to put 100% of his effort into everything, unlike some players. that just doesn't really compensate for much given his lack of other basketball gifts. damn if he isn't always trying hard though.
My man.... On point 100%. Playoff choker started the game and I guess stretched the floor but Diaw played the third. I guess people look for anything to praise that red head er... Those years he got heavy mins they lost..
He still missed his shots in that said Okc game too

bonner was also big against memphis in 2013 iirc
If he plays a minimal role he is fine tbh... PURELY based on a matchup though and no more. Pop used him too much where he did not belong and there came the problem.
which is why i dont get why people are ing. in last year's playoffs he averaged like 3 mpg against dallas, 2 mpg against portland, 5 mpg against miami (mostly in games 3/4/5 blowouts)

That's what we all want from him. I completely forgot about him last season. Unfortunately, with Baynes hurt, I see an expanded role for him in out future (gross)

yeah, but pop shortened his rotation in the playoffs. i dont care how many minutes bonner is getting in the reg season, especially when we have an injury to baynes, who is clearly ahead of him on the depth chart anyway
I don't necessarily disagree that it's on Pop... but it's not him going on out there with the little t-rex arms getting bullied in the paint or beat to a rebound... I don't hate Matt Bonner the person, I hate Matt Bonner the NBA player, tbh
