ESPN just came out with their Top 20 Athletes in the last 20 years list and Timmy is ranked not only lower than Kobe and Lebron but he's also below Michael Phelps and freaking Peyton Manning.

The disrespect is unbelievable. This is a guy coming off his 5th championship and at age 38 (?) is still dominating the sport of basketball but for some reason he never gets the respect he deserves from the media (no sarcasm). He has the numbers, the championship and all the personal accolades but somehow, he's # 14? They even freaking have self admitted PED/Steroid user Lance Armstong ahead of him.

    http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/page...op-20-athletes

    1. Michael Jordan
    2. Lebron James
    3. Tiger Woods
    4. Tom Brady
    5. Roger Federer
    6. Serena Williams
    7. Peyton Manning
    8. Kobe Bryant
    9. Michael Phelps
    10. Derek Jeter

    14. Tim Duncan

The man needs to be in the Top 5 IMO. Heck, if you have cheater Brady in it, why can't you have Duncan who has won in practically 2-3 eras of basketball.

Because Duncan is a guy they can't make profit off of through casual fans who just watch basketball for the flashiness. His style of play isn't exciting. His style of play is humdrum to the simpleminded. Most of all, he doesn't really have major endorsements.

For some and possibly more of these.reasons alone, the sources are willing to ignore him. They also ignore manu and parker even worse.

Also, the combination of those players and.their location does them no justice.

Location has more to do with it than.anything else. Its the biggest factor when it comes to receiving awards and credit for accolades. Otherwise, you'd have to play out of your mind in a small market to receive that attention.

You can't expect people to respect a that's been pretty much average throughout his entire ing career. Sure, he's won some les but as an individual he hasn't accomplished , unless you're counting those two bronze medals... I personally think he was two high on the list.

He resurrected Ferrari in the 90's. Much like MJ, he raised the fitness level in F1. I remember reading somewhere that the dude used to live at the test track all winter. He was a sociopath and boy did he dominate.

To me, I don't have a problem with the list. I'd have Duncan a but higher than Shaq but to have Lance freaking Armstrong who is an admitted cheater above Duncan is outrageous.

Ok... I've seen a number player that have won those awards that consider them a team accomplishment. Dare post his stats? Currently Jim is #19 on the all-time list in scoring. That's behind Pierce, KG, Dirk, Shaq, and of course Kobe is waaaaaaay ahead of him.

And Lebron so insanely overrated. When his legacy is fully written Lebron will largely be about what he left on the table and didn't do. ESPN may be kissing his ass for his entire career but history will not regard him the way they do..

And Duncan is the greatest NBA player of the post Jordan era..

Lebron's legacy will hinge on how many more les he wins. I think he will have to win atleast 2 more les for him to have a great legacy. If Lebron doesn't win another le I think he'll have a similar legacy to Shaq.

He lacks the all time great killer instinct. He is probably the most talented player of all time but mentally he tends to overthink and freeze up in big spots. As great as he is the man is not what so many have built him up to be..

I haven't spent much time watching the NBA 1 on 1 league.

Tim has 2x the number of league MVPs as Kobe, and 1 more Finals MVP. He's got the same number of championships. He also won Rookie of the Year.

Face it, lists like these are made by fans of players. There's no reason Kobe Bryant should be even in the top 10, but neither should Tim Duncan. There are guys out there who do it solo in 1 on 1 type sports. Tiger, Roger, Phelps.. All these guys were peerless at the height of their careers. NBA and NFL players rely heavily on front offices to acquire teammates and coaches to make them successful. You'll notice no one is in the top 10 who never won a championship. That says championships matter to those voters. That being the case, having the ability to beat the entire field over and over (in Tiger's case, like a rug) puts them above guys who were just more fortunate in their cir stances.
