Still can't believe Les pays you for your 'Moneyball' ass wannabe.
Our GM is a court-certified drunkard and...![]()
Morey has done a pretty good job, tbh. Injuries happen.
I know, Splitter is 10x the player Beverly is. Think he misses Dragic, Lowry or even Lin now?
Well just imagine. They could have had bosh.that was really close. But I guess in that alternative world Bosh is still injured, so yeah lol Morey.
He's had the job since 2007 and the team has won just one playoff series in that time. Pretty slim returns by most any reasonable accounting.
Can someone post Barkleys comments on Rockets last 2 losses?![]()
The theory of Dwight And harden together, plus shooters, was good. Dwight has just been a disaster for them, and houston hasnt found those reliable 3 point shooters morey craves so much.
Anyone else doubt that if Morey found a deal for Howard this summer that he wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger?
gotta cut dwight some slack. he is on a minutes restriction.
Morey is a dumb for thinking he can just slap together a team and they'll automatically have chemistry and play together. Add to that the fact that he tries to dictate the style of play and just wants a yes man coach and he's a complete re .
I'm sure there's an advanced metric that would refute your basic claim...and he will find it.
True, but it takes awhile to build a winner and he did get Harden and Howard. He also didnt have the benefit of multiple top 4 lottery picks. Houston was stuck in the middle of the not good enough to make the playoffs, but not bad enough to get a great lottery pick. He's done pretty good to build what they got. I'm not saying that he's on RC's level, but he's by no means a bad GM.
Loading up on bigs who can't shoot free throws with the Spurs in your division?
No, Howard is good for them defensively and his offense has improved surprisingly. He has major flaws, but Bc the center position is so weak, he's a plus match up for them in almost every match up. He's been injured a lot this season, so we need more time before they write off the experiment.
Yea, well Tim Duncan and Tiago Splitter used to have that same problem. Thank God we didn't drop them bc their free throw shooting needed work. Same with Bruce Bowen. Different teams have used the same Pop strategy against each of those guys until they got better at the line.
He constantly chases the big move and ignores chemistry and continuity. Plus, he's retained McHale as his Head Coach. Perhaps not a bottom tier GM, but he is often portrayed as some sort of genius on the cutting edge of sports team management and he's nothing close to that.
He was chasing a star and he got Harden. That move has worked well. Yes he's trying to get stars as he has seen how well the Spurs three star system works. That said, chemistry is a problem, but that's generally something GMs just hope a team can work through. Heck the Spurs had chemistry issues as they tried to work Kawhi into a number one scorer and dealt with injuries. They took awhile to click and most of our team has been together awhile. I think Moerey wants continuity, but he's still tweaking the roster. The Spurs are the model and I think he's try to follow it.
Well, we're looking at the same thing and coming to different conclusions. You see tweaks and I see wholesale changes made annually.
Yeah, but how the did you get 1mirrion posts?
Dwight hasn't been dominant since he left Orlando. Injuries have had a lot to do with that of course, but thats part of the point. Agree that, when healthy, he is a positive for them on defense compared to what they have on the roster. But even in yesterday's game you saw some of the kind of fundamental defensive assignment lapses he's been making his whole career.
It's sad that, after more than 10' years of this guy, we have to continue to talk about him "improving" on offense. His declining health only magnify the fact that he really never evolved in that area over his career.
Dude might be an overpaid Rudy Gobert at this point in his career. Would definitely be listening to offers on the low if I was Morey. Also, he and KD have some sort of beef, so if you have any hope of landing KD if you're Houston you have think about that.
So who thinks this is Houston's peak, regular seasons 2nd place champ, first or second round exit?
Ideally, you let the Harden, Dwight, McHale core gel for about three years before you write them off. But, is there any realistic chance they'll get better. The extra gear could be better outside shooting, total team defense, dwight finally getting healthy, McHale fired.
But if those things were easy woudn't they have happened? They did increase the defense but not really to championship level.
They are missing that 3rd star. If they had signed Bosh and he hadn't gotten injured, they would be at the top with Spurs and GS. They have pieces, but are missing that third scorer. That said, they've been pretty good this season with major injuries. It's hard to win a le, so it's not a complete failure if they don't as long as they have legit playoff success. That hasn't happened yet, but it could and definitely would in the East. They are just unlucky bc they play in the best basketball division in the league and the best conference.
Spurs don't have that third star though. Spurs clearly have more talent overall. But you can't use the free agency fail, the Dwight injury, Beverly injured, Etc as reasons not to improve other things. It's almost like when Dwight went down they settled on winning the mvp race.
