I still dont see a quick fix.
Our GOAT franchise player makes it his mission to on Jimbo every chance he gets ...
The arguably 2nd best Laker hasn't been healthy in almost 3 years ... and he still is our highest paid player.
Scott was a shaky decision at best. I respect his ability to get effort out of a ty squad but I have seen nothing to be excited about future wise compared to say the Celts and Brad Stevens.
We are relying on luck to get a top 3 pick. After Towns, Okafor and Russell I see good not team altering type talent. Plus even out of those top 3 there is no ADavis type corner-stone piece.
If we drop to 6 we lose the pick, if we don't we still have to give up a pick next year unless top 3 (IIRC)
Lastly who can the Lakers get in FA? Love? gasol? Neither guy makes us a contender they are good players but they cant turn a team around. Many of the best players available are RFA's not UFA's So their team will match unless we overpay. And with cap increase some may still match even if we overpay ...
Again, I just dont see a easy path to contention in a brutal west.
I would add a young piece like Middleton or Harris to Randle and our top 5 pick. I would not bring in anyone that would stunt Clarkson's development. I would overpay for a couple defenders if I have to. And just send out a team that can win 35-41 games. If they play hard and the arrow is pointing up (heck we won less than 25 like I predicted) real Laker fans will be fine. Lakers FO and fans need to stop it with the Kiwi, Durant, westbrook pipe-dreams. Patience is key ... dont pay non stars franchise level money just because we are the Lakers and can afford it. And I dont care if Kobe or -made fans wanna win now... grow a pair.
I just cant go through another tank season ..if we miss playoffs and get lucky inthe draft fine, but I want 41 wins. (man, have we fallen far)
