Perhaps doesn't want to let Carlisle put together a great strategy that other teams will then attempt. Perhaps just stupid decision making. Belinelli shouldn't have been playing if he wanted the Spurs to win.

I think Pop was just trolling OKC. You know he is still bitter about 2012.

.......... and the hacking that stoped our momentum, his coaching was weird...
This. The Spurs were trimming the lead down then we start hacking Asik. It killed any flow we might have had.

Spurs looked very non-chalant about the loss. For some reason, they really, really didn't care about losing HCA in 1st and 2nd rounds.

What's all this noise about Popped saving Monty Williams job?
What is Pops connection to Monty?
Monty was a Spurs' assistant coach in the 2005 team. He actually has a Spurs championship ring.

After all these years of Pop's CIA tactics and questionable motivations, I've grown out of ing when he does something that isn't in the best interest of me, the fan. He's been out coached a couple of times in his career and his players have been outplayed before. More often than not, he's doing something deliberately. I don't claim to know his reasoning behind giving the 2 seed away, my only guess is that he saw the team crushing everyone and wanted a reminder of their mortality, 2012 wasn't that long ago. But that's just fan speculation.

Didn't only move from the 2nd to the 6th seed, but also from the 28th to the 24th pick in the draft. Also effectively allowed the Thunder to move from 18th to 14th.

the spurs record when Parker gets more shot attempts than Kawhi and the other way around?
It would be interesting to check that out.
Seeing only the ppg, the Spurs are 27-4 87% when Kawhi scores 18+points, 13% more than Tony 17-6 73.9%

Sometimes, Pop is just dumb AF tbh. No CIA reasoning behind it.
    1. Pop saved Monty's job
    2. He's said before he doesn't like big winning streaks going into the playoffs.

So to put it simply he wouldn't have had a problem with them losing the game.

The Pelicans always play the Spurs tough and they're especially tough when they have all their guys back.

The Pelicans blitzed the Spurs in the 1st quarter and that was the ballgame.

I can't believe the Pels get no credit for winning this game.

After some time cooling off- I think there is a lot of truth in this. Prior to this game the Spurs where 1-2 versus the Pelicans. The only win was a crazy tip in by Tim to put the game in OT.

Also the Spurs went 21 and 4 to end the season. By my estimate, they have had maybe 3 or 4 bad games during that stretch. Too bad it wasn't enough, but hey, the injuries and early post championship hangover dug them into a hole.
Looking on the bright side- they are playing well at the right time- no streak heading in

It's not that. Its him taking out Mills when he was red hot and leading the Spurs comeback. It was him leaving Beli out there and benching Green when there was a clear mismatch. It was him going to hack-a-Asik with no reason to as the Spurs had the momentum and it completely killed it. I give credit to NO for winning the game.

It's just at the same time it appears to me, obviously a lot of people, that Pop didn't care about winning this game as well.

Mills' minutes have been down quite a bit lately , and Pop usually doesn't play him in the first half while Joseph has been getting the PT when Tony is resting.

I thought it was su ious as well, but TP was playing well offensively up to that point, so he was re-inserted in favor of Patty.

Manu was pathetic. I wish Pop would have given Patty the burn and sat out Manu. It seemed like whenever Manu was in the game, the Pelicans made their runs.

The worst was when Manu cut straight down the lane and the ball literally just flew out of his hands and out of bounds.

    Thank you wildchild.
That data is usefull, but i was looking more as focusing the offense on one or another other than individual performance.
But anyways it´s interesting to see that Kawhi is right now the best choice for N1 option in terms of team efficiency.

By all means give the pels their credit but we know Pop coaches a lot different when he really wants to win.

TBH, the Clips are a much better matchup for us than the Mavs, even if we have to go on the road. There's no real difference between the 2nd and 6th seed as far as record...the West is that tight this season...and we let the Rox and Mavs beat each other up in the first round.

Face it, folks. If we can't beat the Clippers without HCA, then there's no way in we're beating the Warriors without HCA.

    GO SPURS GO!!!!!

About sums it up for me. Pop clearly didn't care about beating the Pels, NO obviously had tremendous incentive to win. The Spurs' path to GSW was going to be Mavs-Clippers, and I suppose he thought Dallas and Houston could beat the out of each other for us while getting a more favorable matchup in LA. Obviously, no HCA is a tough obstacle to overcome but this is just the way of the west this year. The Spurs can win in LA and Houston.

I think it's pretty clear Pop gambled he seems like he plays percentages a lot. He knew he wanted the pelicans in 8 so they could test the warriors and there was a pretty good chance the grizzlies lost to the pacers who were fighting to extend their season which would have put the Spurs against their easiest match up Portland. But the Pacers the bed and now we play the clips who while more dangerous than the blazers are a much better match up for us then dallas.
