Duncan started off playing well, but it's basically just been Leonard who has done anything of note since then.

Yeah Parker sucks. But why can'y Kawhi man up and demand the ball? He;s still learning how to pass out of double teams. WE should just tank next year and hope KAwhi is smart enough to learn a dumbed down offense. Maybe then we wont have to lean on a gimpy parker and older than gino to run offense.

You gotta love his effort. He leaves it all on the floor for the good of the team, his tenaciousness on Matrix, the tossing of 280pnd beasts... Max player

    Matt Barnes???

I'd be happy if Kawhi could successfully post up Jamal Crawford

"He's trying to be Kyle Korver out there" - Pop on Kawhi, when the Spurs were losing by 20 in the 3rd against the Clippers two months ago

I don't read threads on this site anymore, but I have to say, how could anyone who watched the game not make the observation, after the first couple minutes, that the Clippers' entire defensive plan revolved around swarming Kawhi with defenders the moment he touched the ball? It was so obvious that their entire plan was to make sure there were always two defenders running at him, and test his play making ability, make other Spurs beat them, and rely on their quickness to recover on other players when he made his pass. Since Kawhi is so new at being the focal point of the offense, it was clear he wasn't ready for this level of defensive attention, and wasn't able to take advantage of it. So, in game one at least, it worked great for them. I'm sure this will be something the Spurs focus on in preparing for game 2. We'll just have to see what adjustments Kawhi is able to make when the double comes.

KL got doubled any time he got the ball on either side of the court.
And... who actually did have a good game on both ends?

Gotta play better as a team. And maybe hope Tiago recovers.

To be fair what Kawhi did with the ball last night didn't matter much seeing as the entire team besides Mills couldn't throw it into the ocean. He still shot the ball well and had 3 assist. He didn't have a good game but it wasn't bad either.

Totally agree. His play was in no way the reason we lost. It was one of those typical blow outs that this Spurs team of the last few years has taken on the chin occasionally. But he will have to play better if the Spurs are going to have a legitimate chance to repeat. I see a game like that as a natural part of his learning curve. The last few months has shown that he can be the man, and dominate, and be the best player on the court. Game 1 was genuinely the first time that a defense has treated him as such, directed his way the type of pressure that the Durant's and LeBron's get on a nightly basis. Last night, typically when he faced that kind of blitz, he would simply dribble back to the top and pass to whatever guard was standing outside the three point line. That plays right into that defensive scheme. So I feel like there are some easy adjustments to make, get other guys moving specifically to attack and take advantage of that pressure. I'm sure with a couple days to work on it that the Spurs will find a way to make the Clipper pay for sending two+ guys at Kawhi. Especially if the other Spurs shoot better and make the Clips pay a few times, they'll be forced to stay home more, which will give Kawhi more of a chance to do his damage.

That's the thing I'm most excited to see in game 2, what adjustments the Spurs make to how Kawhi deals with the defensive pressure directed his way.

Pop has got to make players available when he gets doubled.

And KL has to recognize when it's coming.

What answer? I been preaching this for months. Even Pop awknowledged it a few months ago when he Said Kawhi was playing like Kyle korver.

    Last nite he regressed

He was doubled constantly and they had Jordan coming.

Who was he supposed to go to?

Blame Pop, his teammates, ? They had a great game plan on him.
I expect better next game. But what does it tell you if they double him that quickly?

It tells me that Barnes is a really bad defender, but still gets in Matrix's sensitive head

It tells me the Clips don't want the ball in his hands, and for good reason.
It was a very good move by Rivers and it needs to be countered.

Honestly the KVH comparison isn't a bad one.

When Kawhi is resorting to iso jumpers, he bears a certain resemblance to prime Van Horn.

He's not horrid in this incarnation, we just know he can be so much better.
