Different types of defenders deserve different categories. Rim protectors vs perimeter guys vs situational defense. Bruce was a perimeter and situational defender, David was a rim protector. Overall it's defense, sure, but why does defense get ignored so much in the NBA and in basketball in general? You hear "great 3pt shooter" and "finishes well around the rim" and "points in the paint" but then they lump all defense into one category.

Kawhi Leonard is easily the best defensive perimeter player in the NBA. He creates so much havoc when defending off the ball that teams often avoid passing the ball anywhere near him. His on ball defense is stifling AND he is such an excellent defensive rebounder from the sf position. Best defensive perimeter player in the game.

Bogut or Green should be DPOY favourites this year IMO...Jordan winning it is like Camby winning it.

That's an ESPN list for sure.
Yep it's not about an accurate list it's more about creating hype and page clicks where needed.

Bowen seemed hesitant to recognize Duncan last season about the possibility of a DPOY, not surprising if he did not include Kawhi this time..
Thats because he was no where near DPOY

Things like this is why I don't take NBA players' opinions seriously, or most pro athlete's opinions in general. You realize how little they know about their own sport, it's crazy, most fans know more than these guys.

Basketball is a business, and just like the world of business, you move up by sucking up, who you know, who is your friend, it's definitely not the best and brightest.

Bowen's just toeing the company line of hating the Spurs and yes, I know Beadle and Bayless are vocal Spurs fans on the payroll but they're paid for their theatrics while Bowen is paid to lend "credible" (in ESPN's eyes) NBA information and opinions.

I know smh! People that never saw him just judge him off the #'s and how many passes he cherry picked *cough*

Notice how we never really had Spur killers back in his day? Then you look at now... Ellis, Tyreke, Shved, etc

Bowen woulda stuffed Ray Allen's corner three into his skull, tbh. Loved watching their rivalry over the years. Allen always known as the cool cat in his career , just couldn't help but get agitated by Bruce though.
