Manu hasn't been clutch at the line for a long, long time. Missed big FTs against the Heat and in Game 6 of last year's OKC series.
I'd rather have Green, Beli, or Patty shoot those over Gino tbh.
My whole family was expecting every Spur to miss free throws tonight. We even wondered aloud why the Clips didn't try hack-a-random-ass-Spur at some point.
Enter: Patty Mills, who calmly sends the game into overtime, and follows that up by icing the game in the extra period with his free throws. Give this man the ball!
Good on ya, Patty![]()

Ayers could supplant Manu at this point.
Baynes could. Guy is shooting 87% from the line as well.
True, but between then and now, have we had a designated clutch free throw shooter? Green's game doesn't get himself to the line enough, especially in big moments.
Perhaps this was just Patty's game to close, but I'm interested to see if Pop puts Patty in a similar position to close out a game going forward, especially if Tony stays "injured."
I was thinking that it was Danny's role but I have seen him brick a few recently so it might be Patty now that I feel the most confident shooting them, both clutch and technical shots.
I am fine with it, the problem is that he would need to replace Parker among those who are ON THE COURT on the clutch
order of best and most cold blooded FT shooters in our team:
1. Patty
2. Belinelli
3. Green
4. Parker
5. Baynes
I do think the Spurs won in large part because Manu fouled out. That allowed Green to play, which meant Kawhi wasn't on Paul. Manu simply hasn't been clutch this season at the line. He honestly shouldn't automatically close games anymore.
Yes, yes he has. With Green, Behli & Baynes following him. Don't really trust anyone else at the line.
