    McCutchen is one of the league's best officials
    True. I generally think the league identifies its best officials every year by playoff assignments. The best 12 (in general) work the Finals, the best 20 or so work the conference finals, and so on. The very best of those groups are assigned as crew chiefs for playoff games and the best of the best are the 4 crew chiefs for the Finals. McCutchen has been a Finals crew chief every year since 2010. He is among the league's best and has been for quite a while now. History says that he would have been the crew chief for Game 7 of the Finals last year, had there been one, which suggests that the league thought he was its very best official in 2013-14.

    McCutchen and Pop do have a pretty testy relationship for some reason.
