Clippers take a psychological hit in Game 3 loss to Spurs

    Bill Dwyre
    Los Angeles Times

At least disappointed and disillusioned Clippers fans will have a rallying cry to remember where a season of great promise probably trickled away, not far from the San Antonio River.

    Remember the Alamo.

That cry, of course, represented heroism and death. This one merely represented the place where a basketball team, celebrated all season as a contender to hold up the big trophy at the end, began to crumble on a Friday night.

The Clippers came to AT&T Center here to play perhaps the most important game in franchise history to date. That's especially notable because they haven't played all that many in a long history of previous mediocrity that goes from Buffalo to San Diego to Donald Sterling.

Now, Sunday, when they play Game 4 here, it really is the most important game in franchise history.

They put themselves in this situation by throwing away the second game of the seven-game series Wednesday night, and with it home-court advantage.

If you think that doesn't matter as much as everybody talks about in the NBA playoffs, think again.

"Two things could happen from here. The Clippers could somehow make the biggest psychological turnaround seen in a long time in the NBA and steal a home game back."

stop. Just stop. Smh… praising The spurs and then forgetting that the biggest psychological comeback happened in 2013 game 7 and last season is just plain dumb.

Most people out here turn their attention to the Dodgers come May, Staples Center is usually dormant by then and Angelenos forget the NBA exists.

It's strange how we have been looking for so long for the next Michael Jordan and haven't spent enough time checking out San Antonio.
I've been biting my tongue on this for a bit - I've heard a couple of my friends briefly say "wow that was jordanesque" but I'll stick with what I always say, we have no idea what this dude's ceiling is, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Sooooo....back to the article....what do you guys think? Are the Clippers coming back? This guy couldn't have laid down a bigger gauntlet than he did.

Do you think they (Clips) will fight back and return to Game 1 form or do you think they are demoralized?

I kind of think that one of their big shooters is due for a big game - kind of like our guy was last night or Griffin was in Game 1. My guess would be that Paul will be the one to say he needs to put the team on his back and he will start shooting a lot more. They really did miss a lot of shots last night, and if they score like they normally do, the game is a lot closer and then it is just who has the grit at the end.

I would like to see Kawhi have another game just like last night's in Game 4. It took him two relatively quiet games against Miami in last year's finals to uncork his offense...maybe that is what it takes for him to figure out how he wants to attack. But wouldn't it be nice to have him come on like last year's finals for the next two games and put these guys away?

This is definitely a desperation game for them. The question really is if they have a slow start or the Spurs have a fast start, do they fold? Pressure is going to be there and mounting.

IMO they were playing their hardest in game 1, as far putting in effort defensively(yet we still had plenty open looks) and they're too gassed to keep that up. As long as we hit our shots we should have nno problem finishing them off in five.

You know what I noticed from those article photos? Almost every Clipper wears those power bands on their wrist. None of the Spurs do. I guess we don't believe in that voodoo stuff.
