Kaminsky can ball, I think he could succeed with the Spurs' staff. But at the same time, if you thought Splitter was soft.....

I doubt if any lottery team would give up their pick for Splitter. Even if they did Spurs FO wouldn't take Big K.
They'd probably roll with an undersized guard for some reason or a Euro who's not ready to come over for another 8 years.

Atlanta would be a good trade partner. Atlanta gives up the 15th pick for Splitter.
They could absorb his contract ($47.8 Million to 9 players including Splitter) and still have up to $17.3 million (including roster charges) to resign Milsap and Carroll.
He would come off the bench, minimizing his chance of injury. As the third big, he'd be great for them with all of the spacing. He can play alongside Milsap or Horford (who can both shoot). They have been looking for a starting center for a while. He is only 30 and only making $8.5 million next season and $8.25 the following season.
Spurs pick up a second first rounder. and clear out $26 million in cap (including cap holds to KL & DG) if you include roster charges for the 5 empty roster spots its $23 million. [Parker, Diaw, Mills, Green, Leonard, Anderson, 15th Pick]

What ? Atlanta need bench if they want to take another step. Splitter is good C with reasonable contract. I dont see how Budenholzer wouldnt want him to backup Sap/Horford. I dont think that Spurs should trade Splitter. I dont think breaking up half of the team to bring max money FA is a good move.
Pretty sure the last time they traded up into the top half of the first round it worked out ok.

I agree that Splitter is a solid player, no doubt. But that 15th overall pick holds more value than he does. You could get a good, young player on a rookie contract with that pick. A player with potential to grow into something more. Tiago's hit his ceiling and I just really don't see any team trading a commodity like a high draft pick for him.
Atlanta has new ownership. I do believe they dont have to wait for rookie to develop, since they`ve already got good team with couple pieces missing.
If he's available in the 11-15 range, I'd explore the option but not for splitter. It's an apple to oranges comparison of skill set, and Splitter is too valuable of a defender (when healthy).

So many people acting like Kaminsky is bad at defense. His defense is projected to be well above average and is one of his main selling points. It's like none of you guys watched him play
Whos that? We're not discussing anyone with subpar defense. Everyone in this thread is above average defensively
his defense does not translate to the NBA as his lateral quickness is below avg

I'd say its 50/50. FYI, 30 for a center is pretty young. Its fairly common for bigs now a-days to play till their mid 30s. He probably could play another 5 of 6 seasons. For a soft player he is a terrific defender. Shutting down L.A & Dirk in the PS. He ranked as the 6th best center defensively last season in DRPM and even with injury he was 12th this season.
That would be a great trade for both teams. Atlanta needs size, both bigs are 6'8 and 6'10 with Scott at 6'7 and Antic at 6'10. Splitter had his best season coming off the bench for the Spurs, I would think he would be as successful with additional spacing and playing against inferior compe ion in the east.
Atlanta probably isn't going to find an impact player in the draft for next season and their starting 5 is already set (assuming Milsap and Carroll are back). Moving the 15th for a starting caliber big makes plenty of sense. Cleveland gave up 2 first rounders for Mosgov, who isn't as good as Splitter is.
Spurs could use that to clear out max cap space and add someone like Sam Decker in the draft.
They could use their second 1st rounder to stash a player like George Lucas or add another rookie in someone like Justin Anderson to fill out the bench on the cheap.
It really depends on the teams needs picking in the lottery. Utah for example has had a slew of lottery picks but a 29th pick turned out to be the most promising prospect. They could end up trading their pick if they think they can get an experienced starter who makes sense with their core. Players in the middle of the 1st round generally peak as starters. Depending on that player, it could taken 3 or 4 seasons for them to reach that potential.
Splitters age fits with a team like Atlanta's core players age range better than a 20 year that could take 3 seasons before he can make a big impact.

The injury thing gets a bit overstated sometimes. He isn't Nene. Guy did play 172 of 178 games between '11-'13. He gets banged up alot though.
Of course it is. An above average two way player making less than $17 million over the next two seasons. Hibberts making about that in one season. Splitters deal would be pretty easy to move depending on the asking price of the Spurs.
