The smart financial move seems to be taking a shorter contract and then re-upping when the cap goes up. If he's going to do that, does Portland have any financial advantage over San Antonio.
Three percent in the second year. Just over one percent total.

Solid speculation. This kind of info is great.

He thinks at the age of 29 if he joined the spurs, there should be no reason why he can't play 6-7 more years at a high level.
It'd be hilarious if he left Portland out of lack of confidence in their training staff and minutes management.

People talk about LeBron's lack of loyalty, but the fact is he probably just got sick of dealing with the chuckleheads in Cleveland and wanted to play with a professional organization. Maybe Aldridge has simply lost confidence in the Blazers.

You'd think someone who works for a public relations firm would know how to proofread.
    That was my first thought.

If he is willing to get less than max..maybe he is worth it, but why wouldn't he? it is his last big contract...

LaMarcus taking a pay cut to sign with the Spurs is about as likely as SA getting an NFL football team.

This guy is just rehasing all the so far reports. LA son live in San Antonio. LA himself claimed he is a family and wouldn't mind returning to Texas. He said that years ago, not just recently. Reports were (2-3 weeks ago) that a teammate said that SA is high on LA list of teams to sign this offseason.

About playing with Timmy, this was mentioned in last year's playoff series, that Tim was LA idol growing up and Tim was one player that he would have liked to played with in his career. So yeah, he does get a chance.

This does not mean he will sign for less than the max. Just means SA is on top of his list and the Spurs have a good chance of landing him.

I don't get why you're all dismissing this post out of hand. Even though the writing of the author is beyond questionable, that doesn't necessarily mean we should discard his post wholesale. The author does raise some valid points.

For instance, it is true that Texas' lack of an income tax will be a financial incentive for Aldridge to choose San Antonio over Portland. It is also true that he is a native of Texas, and that his family lives here. Finally, it's highly conceivable that Aldridge would indeed take a one-year deal so he could get an even bigger max contract when the bigger cap kicks in next season. In fact, if Aldridge wanted to both make more money and get his best shot at a championship, taking a one-year deal this offseason from the Spurs is indeed his best option.

All of these are sound arguments that would indeed point to Aldridge choosing the Spurs over the Blazers.

Ok. The allstar player, top 5 power forward of the league is willing to take less than Kawhi ing Leonard being unhappy with the pg of his team taking more flashes than him. And I'm Santa Claus.

Given the jumps in the cap we're going to see the next couple years it's pretty likely that we'll see some players (especially those with one big contract already under their belts) sign short term deals to better position themselves for bigger deals down the road. (See, James, LeBron.) I think it's possible Aldridge will do so. Will he also take less than the max for that short term deal? Seriously doubt it.
